We all aspire to be superheroes one day endowed with great powers and strengths. Here is the list of movies that redefined the genre and made us believe that there is actually a superhero inside all of us:

Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Sam Raimi returned with a sequel to his original Spiderman movie starring Tobey Maguire. He was bitten by a spider, became a superhero, faced Green Goblin and just when he thought things will be alright, he was beset with personal and family issues. In Spiderman 2, he had to save the people he loved and faced a brilliant scientist cum insane creature known as Doc-Ock who is hell-bent on wreaking havoc upon everything in his path.

Captain America: Civil War (2016)

It opened to a massive opening, the global box office collections crossed a Billion dollar mark. Due to loss of property and human life as a result of Avengers actions, General Ross pointed out the need for maintaining oversight through Sokovia Accords to be ratified by 117 nations, which will appoint a special UN Panel to keep checks and balances on Avengers missions. This created deep fissures among Tony Stark and Captain America resulting into a division of Avengers into two camps: Team Iron Man and Team Cap.

X-Men: First Class (2011)

After the botched up attempt by Brett Ratner in X-Men: The Last Stand, the superhero franchise was revitalized with Matthew Vaughn taking the reins and delivered a cracker of the film. Some fans argued that it even topped the first and second X-Men films of Bryan Singer. The younger versions of the original cast returned and band together with the US government to prevent an evil dictator played by Kevin Bacon who is hell-bent on causing World War 3.

The Avengers (2012)

Finally, Disney studios decided to take a plunge fulfill the dream of every marvel comic book fan by bringing together the earth’s mightiest superheroes in a single frame. Joss Whedon killed it and wowed audiences as they cheered, drank, ate and marveled at it all.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

After the successful launch of Captain America franchise, its sequel took it to the next level. It was more like an espionage thriller than a run-of-the-mill superhero outing. SHIELD was penetrated by HYDRA, the villain was menacing and had an intimate connection with Steve Rogers’ past. A must watch if you are a fan of spy drama and superhero stuff rolled into one.

The Dark Knight (2008)

It was truly the milestone achieved by Christopher Nolan in the history of comic book filmmaking. Gotham confronts its most diabolical, psychotic and harrowing villain in the form of Joker who plays deadly mind games with Batman and calls himself as “agent of chaos”. Heath Ledger posthumously won an Oscar for the “Best Supporting actor”, many believed he immortalized the character of the Joker with his unbelievable performance.

Iron Man (2008)

If you know Robert Downey Jr. today, a great deal can be attributed to his role of Tony Stark and the unprecedented fame that came to him. A Playboy Billionaire tech-genius fights bad guys with a metallic suit of armor in an attempt to save the world. The movie sowed the seeds of “AVENGERS INITIATIVE”.

It’s one of the most breathtaking and exhilarating projects undertaken by Bryan Singer.
