Although Bruce Wayne will always be associated with Batman, there have been a few characters who have taken over from him(mainly because he was dead). Here are six surprising characters who have been Batman:

Superman

Commissioner Jim Gordon

When The Joker killed Bruce Wayne in his Endgame plot, Gotham still needed a new B-man. So the City’s government decided to put together their own Dark Knight. Jim Gordon became the first candidate to put on a new suit and fight crime, as he was the only man who knew the ins and outs of Gotham’s crime rings.

Thomas Wayne

Thomas Wayne took on the role of Batman in the alternate universe of Flashpoint where Bruce Wayne never survived the robbery but his parents did. His mother evolved into Catwoman while Thomas Wayne became the hooded vigilante. Thomas Wayne was also the first, which he dressed as when attending a masquerade ball. He also stopped a petty crime from happening that night. Bruce took inspiration from his father.

Alfred Pennyworth

Alfred Pennyworth, the trusted butler of Bruce Wayne donned the suit of B-man at the request of his master. In Batman: Rebirth, He set out a plan that involved fooling the villain Gotham of his attack. Alfred rode the Batmobile straight into Gotham, hitting the villain to cause him confusion. He was then replaced by the real Batman.

Jason Todd

In Battle for the Cowl, Jason Todd unofficially took on the role of Batman after his death. He tried to be a more mythical type of B-man who incited fear into the hearts of villains. But his brutality and questionable actions of violence made him more of a criminal than a hero. Tim Drake and Dick Grayson soon put a stop to it.

Damian Wayne

batman characters

In Batman #666, Damian Wayne, the only son of Bruce Wayne took on the moniker that was once held by his father. Damian had made a deal with the devil which made him immortal and heal quickly. The Gotham City he roamed in was a more twisted scenario, and the new B-man, unlike his father has no qualm about killing anyone in the name of justice.
