Superhero Love stories are amazing, they are beautiful as they show the human side of the superheroes. Contrary to the notion, hero saves the girl, there are a lot of times that their relationships end when one or both are wiped off existence. Here are some such cases:
Peter Parker and Mary Jane
Once, Peter had it all. Who would have ever thought that a science nerd would get a hot redhead coming up to him? He was with Mary Jane, and though the relationship had some problems, with the stillborn kid being born amongst them, or you can call it Norman Osborn bribing the nurse to say that, it was very beautiful. But it all ended when Aunt May is dying and Peter trades the existence of his marriage for Aunt May’s life with Mephisto ending everything.
Clark Kent and Lois Lane
Lois Lane and Superman’s relationship is not hidden from anyone, the two worked together as journalists at the Daily Planet but Probably the biggest shock of all in the comics was when the seemingly unbreakable Superman died. He and Doomsday go all out, and it is in their final blow that they strike towards each other, having all their energy, which hits both at the same time with such intensity that at the end of the battle Doomsday is dead, and Superman dies a heroic death in the arms of Lois Lane.
Bruce Wayne And Silver Saint Cloud
Silver was a socialite, was a hostess to the elite and wealthy of Gotham City. She after seeing Bruce’s scars came to know about his identity as Batman, because of which she left him. This lead Bruce being devastated knowing that his crime-fighting persona is what drove her away, this, in turn, leads Bruce to give up the cape for quite a while. But after a while, the two got together again and got engaged eventually. Their romance was short-lived though as the villain Onomatopoeia kills Silver.
Scott Summers and Jean Grey
Though Cyclops and Jean Grey had their ups and downs, the couple was the best that the X-Men franchise had to offer. Jean had been putting off Wolvie because she loved Scott Summers, but then Jean dies in the dark Phoenix saga at the hands of Wolverine. This shocked the fans but had a little impact as after Jean’s death, Emma Frost and Scott come into a legitimate relationship.
Peter Parker And Gwen Stacy
This is till date the biggest shock ever to be caused to the comic book fans for killing the loved one of a superhero that too by the hands of a villain. Osborn kills Peter’s girl, Gwen Stacy, or should we call it, he makes Peter kill his girlfriend. This was truly a defining moment for the bronze age comics as it not only changed the trend but here it’s actually Spidey’s webbing trying to save Gwen, that leads to snapping her neck.
