DC and Warner Bros have big plans for Justice League. And they have something big planned for Superman. The trailer of Justice League had insanely awesome moments. We saw a relatively eased out Bruce Wayne, and wait for it —AQUAMAN atop the BATMOBILE. However, one person who was notably absent from the events was the MAN OF STEEL. Of course, we saw Clark Kent die at the end of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but he will be brought back in Justice League. Since Justice League is a trilogy, his absence from the trailer was weird.
Although absent from the trailer, Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill have confirmed that Superman will play a big role in the movie.
The usual expectation is that he will rise from his grave, and save the team and Earth from Steppenwolf. However, an unusual theory has come up. It suggests that Superman could be the villain of Justice League. It is believed that eventually Superman will be driven by his innate humanity and turn to the good side again. The team thus would spend maximum efforts in fighting a future teammate. So, Warner Bros. has something big up their arsenal and they are keeping a closed lid on it!

This certainly explains why he is hidden in trailers and absent from all promotional visits. It could be that they are trying to promote the film by creating a mystery around it. As to where is Kal-El? What happened to him? Is he good, is he bad?
As of now, we know very little about Superman’s role in the film. From, what we do know is that Bruce Wayne and Wonder Woman have a way of bringing him back. But all of this is a theory.
We will have to wait until November this year to find out what actually happens.
