Marvel Cinematic Universe has been known to produce some light-hearted fare in their movies. But their movies have not fully entered into the genre of comedy as they deal with some death-defying circumstances that may be hard to laugh at. That being said, zany one-liners from Tony Stark have become a given which fans expect to see. Joss Whedon, writer, and director of The Avengers films has been known to give a few good comedic scenes to his superheroes using action and snarky dialogue.
Taika Waititi, first time director to Marvel will make his debut with Thor: Ragnarok. Waititi showcased Thor’s funny side with the short film,“While You Were Fighting: A Thor Mockumentary.” The humorous film depicted what Thor and Hulk were up to during Captain America:Civil War. Thor was revealed to have moved in with a roommate named Darryl. Both Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo showcased their comedic chops with the short film.
Darryl, the quiet office worker who rooms with a Norse god has become such a fan favorite that there were even rumors of him being featured in Avengers: Infinity War. Fans have also reacted so positively towards the mockumentary that they have requested for more featuring other Avengers as well. During an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, Waititi said,“That would be a dream come true.I’d love to actually make a bunch of them.”
The director also confessed that he had never seen any of the previous Thor movies- Thor, Thor: The dark World.
“I made an effort to ignore the fact there are other Thor films. I honestly know NOTHING outside of what I’m doing. I’m trying to ignore the rest of the universe and just make my own awesome movie.”
What Waititi has accomplished with Thor: Ragnarok can only be speculation for now, but judging from fans reaction to even the short film, it is bound to be something enjoyable and special for Thor fans.
