Black Widow being the very first character to make her appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even before Thor, Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy or Antman for that matter. And not to forget, the highest paid actress in 2016.Considering this fact one would expect Black Widow to have a solo movie, but somehow this doesn’t seem to be the case.
While fans still wait for MCU to announce a solo Black Widow movie, various other theories exist. For one thing, Black Widow has been a real strong support character to Iron Man, Captain America, mostly all Marvel movies. So once she gets a solo movie, it would be difficult to go back to playing a supporting role. Some theory!!
For us, the movie would do wonders. Most of the superheroes have acquired their powers through various means – technology for Iron Man, Gama Radiation for Hulk, Super Human Serum for Captain America and Hammer for Thor. But when it comes to Black Widow, she just takes the cake away with her ground level plain simple spy method and some great action sequence.
Another thing that really wouldn’t work for a solo Black Widow movie is a plain simple fact – She has no enemies. Yes, you heard us right. When was the last time you saw an enemy face off with Black Widow? She’s always been supporting the Avengers as a team.
Even after all this, we might have some good news. Kevin Feige has promised a solo Black Widow movie by 2020. This would be in collaboration with Walt Disney studios. According to Feige while in conversation with Deadline, during Captain America: Civil War –
“We’ve announced the next nine movies, 10 counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned, I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow. […] We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a stand-alone franchise.”
So after all this, it would still be a big question if Scarlett Johansson would still be available to take the role of Black Widow or not. Well, we can just wait and watch.
