What is the Connection Between Agents of Shield and Doctor Strange?
Although the MCU has extended its scope from movies to television, it has been quite restrictive when handling both sides. There were promises of both film and TV world being interlinked but it has only been through references and never appearances. The ABC show Agents Of SHIELD and Netflix show Daredevil and Jessica Jones have often referenced the occurrences from the movies but that’s where the interlinking ends. The movies have barely acknowledged that the TV Marvel world have existed.
Despite this, the show Agents of SHIELD now seems to be forming a new connection with upcoming Marvel movie Doctor Strange. The TV series which is heading into its fourth season has plans to bring magic and mysticism into the show. Agents showrunners Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon talked to Entertainment Weekly about the new seasons’ themes and the Doctor Strange connections. Said Tancharoen :
“The same questions that our team is exploring leading up to the premiere of Doctor Strange, perhaps some of those concepts will be reflected in the movie and then carried through.”
Whedon further elaborated about the theme and what Doctor Strange could do for the fifth season:
“The tie this year will feel more of a reflection of the movie, less an interweaving plot. As that movie hits the world, it comes at the right time in our show, and you will see some of those same ideas being explored. Hopefully some of the questions that we’re asking will be answered by it and then pose some new themes and ideas for us to explore.”
The fourth season show premiere showed Agent May being haunted by a ghost and Daisy Johnson encounters Ghost Rider. Ghost Rider is a superhero who claims to draw his powers from The Devil himself.Marvel has avoided dealing with mysticism and the magic in its previous movies but it seems to be gearing up into that world with Doctor Strange.
