It seems that Fantastic Four 2 may not happen in the near future. The makers have given us a release date and little revelation about the cast. But now, they are also unsure about the fact that whether Fantastic Four 2 may happen or not. June 9, 2017, was the scheduled date and as of now, it seems not at all possible to release the movie on the scheduled date. No updates regarding the project are available now and the studio maintains pin drop silence regarding the topic. So let’s assume that the studio doesn’t have any plans for the sequel at the moment.
The stars of the Fantastic Four reboot also seem less interested in doing a sequel soon and it’s clear from their responses when asked about this topic. When asked about the sequel, Kate Mara, who played the role of Sue Storm in the movie said: “Oh yeah, I mean, I’d love to be a part of a Fantastic Four sequel, or whatever they may have or may not have in store for us. And I know all of the guys feel the same way. We love working with each other and yeah, we would love to actually play these characters in another way, somehow in the future. I have no idea if that’s actually true. If that will happen. But I’d be really happy to do it.”
It’s crystal clear from her statement that she is not really interested in doing a sequel, but as she is still under contract, she is required to be a part of a possible sequel. She said the above-quoted words in an interview given to IGN. Her body language in the interview also clearly suggests her lack of interest towards doing a sequel. We all know the reason behind her lack of interest towards the project. Fantastic Four (2015) which was a remake of the 2005 film of the same name received extremely negative reviews and was heavily panned by the critics. Everything, including the CGI, performances, and the characterizations were very much criticized. Many consider this remake as a movie, which spoiled the name of the original. This might be the primary reason behind Kate Mara’s mediocre interest towards appearing in the sequel.
