Marvel Studios and Sony announced their collaboration for launching a new Spiderman franchise. The arrangement between the two studios is unique – Marvel pushes the creative leads while Sony decides to permit or reject it. In the new franchise, the popular actor Tom Holland has been cast as Peter Parker/Spiderman, who was taken in by Tony Stark/Iron Man to fight for his team in Captain America Civil War.
The studios have finalized on the “Spiderman Homecoming” storyline and Vulture as the big villain. Michael Keaton (Birdman, Spotlight) will most likely be bringing Vulture alive onscreen. He will be wearing a suit which gives him the ability to fly at increased strength, built from the remains of Chitauri (a race of extra-terrestrial shape-shifters) technology from the battle of New York. He will also employ the help of a man called Tinkerer who will actually make the advanced flight suit based on superior alien technology. He will be played by Logan Marshall- Green (24 TV Series, The O.C.) Further, the additions to the cast include Donald Glover as Peter Parker’s friend and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May.
But the movie will also have Robert Downey Jr. a.k.a Tony Stark. So what will be his role? He will be a mentor to Peter Parker who is still learning to understand what it means to be a superhero. He would surprise him with cool gadgets such as a new upgraded suit with Spidey web wings and web-shooters that display classic Spiderman signal. Sony President Tim Rothman revealed in an interview that Robert Downey Jr. is playing a key role without which the story is incomplete. It would be interesting to see if Tony Stark almost become a father figure to Peter Parker, he’s been there done that, and a great company to have if you are a high-school student with superpowers.
The movie is expected to hit theatres on July 7, 2017. The film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car).
