Guardians of the Galaxy 2: Plot Details and New Characters

Marvel Studios have released pictures, conceptual art and teaser trailer from Guardians of the Galaxy 2 with all the main characters in it. In 2014, the studio almost achieved the impossible with the spectacular success of Guardians of the Galaxy as only the passionate fans of Marvel comics were fully aware of main characters – Star Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel) etc. It was one of the most amazing marketing campaigns by Marvel, as they managed to not just introduce these characters well, instead made the audience love them more than anyone expected. However, new characters such as Nebula, Mentis and Yondu  have been added in the sequel.

Chris Pratt played the role of Star Lord/Peter Quill in his own inimitable style with immaculate comic timing. He is coming back with a new armor on his chest, Rocket Raccoon also has an armor, while Groot remains a tiny creature but more rambunctious.

The most powerful secret of Guardians series is the identity of Peter Quill’s father. In comic-world, his father is Jason Quill (J’son of Spartax, Emperor of Spartoi empire, second son of galactic Emperor) but in the movies, it is unlikely to be the case. However, there is a strong possibility of Kurt Russell who is recently being added to the cast to play Starfox (Eros of Titan, younger brother of Thanos and father of Peter Quill). The intention of writer James Gunn is to introduce family relations component to the sequel which vindicates this theory. Also, it was revealed at the end of the Guardians of the Galaxy that Peter Quill has a powerful ancient DNA which further lend credibility to the theory.
