Game of Thrones: An Insane Theory just got Confirmed

The episode 8 titled “No One” has drawn flak from all corners as it neither had major WTF moments nor it gave us the viewers any clues to resolve biggest mysteries of Game of Thrones. The most disappointing part of the episode was that it dashed the hopes of die-hard GOT fans who were expecting Cleganebowl (Mountain vs The Hound) in the last episode as King Tommen made a royal announcement banning the practice of trial by combat to dispense justice in the Westeros. Another theory concerning Arya (Arya is Waif, Waif is Arya) was debunked as we found out that she was actually stabbed in the gut multiple times by Waif, fortunately, Arya survived and killed “the girl” for good.

But there was a silver lining in the episode that you may have missed. We always knew that Lord Varys’ allegiance lies with House Targaryen. He believes that Daenerys Targaryen is the only one who can bring peace and prosperity into the seven kingdoms. He even managed to convince Tyrion Lannister to travel to Meereen and help her claim the Iron Throne. His school of thought is that when there was Targaryen rule in Westeros, there was stability in the realm. Once House Targaryen was overthrown by Robert Baratheon’s rebellion supported by Lannisters and other powerful houses, the entire realm descended into chaos and instability.

A scene between Tyrion Lannister and Lord Varys confirmed a major theory in the Game of Thrones universe. We saw Lord Varys bidding adieu to Tyrion and is going on a secret mission to win over allies in Westeros particularly for ships to march across the narrow sea. The Greyjoys are sailing to Meereen precisely for the same purpose, but Varys doesn’t know that. He has a huge network of spies (birds) all across the realm who keeps him informed about everything and everyone.

So where he might possibly be heading to? There is a speculation that he may be going to Dorne and bring House Martell into the fold, it’s presently run by Ellaria Sands (wife of Oberyn Martell) and Sand Snakes as they murdered Doran Martell and Trystane Martell. If this is true, it would mean that Varys is part of a “Targaryen restoration” initiative (if I may say) hinted in the “Song of Ice & Fire” books few times.
