Demi Lovato thought she wouldn’t make it to her 21st Birthday

Demi Lovato 21st Birthday: Demi Lovato is a teenage sensation who has given fabulous hits like Skyscraper, Made in the USA, Here We Go Again, Give Your Heart A Break etc. She has always been candid about her mental health, addiction issues, eating and a bi-polar disorder. She revisits all of these issues in an interview with American Way and revealed that she once thought she will not be able to make it her 21st Birthday.

She said she saw her mother and grandmother suffer from a bulimia, participated in many beauty pageants which made her extremely conscious of her body. She said “My body-image awareness started way before pageants. But I do attribute a little of my insecurities to being onstage and judged for my beauty.”

On being part of Disney Channel Original movie Camp Rock at age 15, Demi Lovato thought she would become the next Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan. She said “Making Camp Rock, I was definitely like, ‘Oh crap. In three years, that’s going to be me.”

On her addiction with Cocaine, OxyContin and drinking heavily, she said “I lived fast and I was going to die young. I didn’t think I would make it to 21.”

Demi Lovato is now leading a healthier lifestyle in terms of diet and exercise, celebrated the fourth year of her sobriety and thank fans for keeping her in check. She is now a great mental health advocate and helps people who need it.

She further added “When I have meet-and-greets, I can’t tell you the number of times that girls will show me their arms covered in scars or cuts. They’ll tell me, ‘You helped me get through this. Because of you, I stopped self-harming,’ or ‘I got sober.’ Hearing those things gave my life new meaning.”
