Doctor Strange 2 Could Introduce Us To A New Defenders Team

We will say Doctor Strange work on the mayhem that was the result of the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The post-credits scene showed us that there is still a lot that Strange has to work on in order to make things right in terms of the multiversal chaos. It was clearly indicated that the stakes are gonna be really high this time and it is difficult to imagine something like this being worked out alone by Strange. But Strange might end up having his variants come by and help him out with the circumstances he is facing. We already got to witness another Doctor Strange much like him but having darker shades appear in the movie. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness features a variant of Strange called Defender Strange. So, we could end up seeing a new Defenders team being set up in the MCU.

Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is supposed to feature some fresh faces in the MCU. The events of Spider-Man: No Way Home actually indicated the multiple possibilities that the multiverse can have and this works both in terms of bad and good. Doctor Strange will be requiring the help of Scarlet Witch and America Chavez to work out the chaotic events that unfold in this sequel. The multiverse might end up giving us an interesting group of heroes who become a part of the MCU. We saw that we will be witnessing a certain variant of Doctor Strange in the movie and this might indicate some other possibilities.

The Disney+ series Loki was the first to introduce us to the concept of multiverse and variants. We actually got to witness a certain number of variants of the God of Mischief himself. This was also seen in the teaser for Doctor Strange 2 as we got to witness the presence of an evil Doctor Strange variant. Fans immediately started theorizing that this could be Doctor Strange Supreme from the Disney+ animated series What If…?. But at the same time, it could be some other version that is closer to Doctor Strange Supreme. With the latest revelation that the movie will also feature Defender Strange, we might actually get a chance to have MCU’s new team of heroes.

Defender Strange

We haven’t gotten a proper look at Defender Strange appearing in Doctor Strange 2 yet. His presence was only confirmed on the basis of the merchandise for the movie, which revealed both the costume and the name of the character- a red and black suit. There was a tiny glimpse of him falling through the multiverse in the trailer for Doctor Strange 2. Based on the name of the character, we can be sure that this is the variant of Strange who is a part of the superhero team Defender. Fans might remember having witnessed a version of this team in the Netflix series Defenders.

New Defenders Team

The Defenders that might have seen before might not be canon to the MCU but Defenders from this variants reality could join the MCU after the events of Multiverse of Madness. Doctor Strange was actually the founder of this team in the comics back in 1971. Initially, the team consisted of heroes like Hulk and Namor and they primarily defended Earth from beings known as the Undying Ones. With MCU already working on expanding the characters, Defender Strange could actually be a means of bringing this variety of characters. We can see Hulk actually teaming up with Tenoch Huerta’s Namor in a cameo to give us an idea of the team.

New Defenders Team

Even though we might not get to see the Defenders in the movie, the presence of Defender Strange surely keeps the changes of this happening open. This rendition of the sorcerer actually gives us a chance to see the team in some future project. We might see Doctor Strange learn about such a team and try to make his own version of it in the MCU. We can be sure that this movie is definitely going to be wild with so many crazy events that could happen.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opens in theatres on May 6.
