Everything We Want To See In The New Wakanda Disney+ Series

Getting Black Panther 2 right is the current priority of visionary director Ryan Coogler. But back in February, Deadline dropped a Wakandan Bomb upon us. Besides Black Panther 2, Ryan Coogler is also developing a drama series set in the Kingdom of Wakanda. He has signed a 5-year television deal with Disney which will have him come up with exclusive TV shows for the studio. And the Wakanda series will be the first of his exclusive Disney+ shows. On top of that, we’ll also get an Okoye based show along with the New Wakanda Disney+ Series.

I think it is a brilliant idea from Marvel. Wakanda is Earth’s most advanced nation. And the first Black Panther movie didn’t fully explore it. But this new Wakanda Disney+ series and the Okoye project offers Marvel a chance to do something that they won’t be able to do in the regular Black Panther films. It will allow them to take their time with certain elements of Wakanda. So, here’s a list of things we wish to see in the upcoming Wakanda based show:

Explore Wakanda

New Wakanda Disney+ Series

We saw 3 Thor movies and all of them failed to really explore Asgard. The magical realm had so much potential, but we didn’t get to discover its true greatness. The Wakanda series could save the Black Panther franchise from the same fate. It could explore the parts of Wakanda that we didn’t see in the first film. We could get a better understanding of the culture that the Wakandan citizens follow. Black Panther 2 is supposed to have a war between Wakanda and Atlantis. So, it won’t have any time to explore these little intricate details. And that’s where the Wakanda series could come into play.

New Inventions and Technologies

Avengers 4 Marketing

The series could expand upon the technologies that Wakanda excels in. We saw a bunch of technological marvels in Shuri’s lab. Wakanda had extremely fast-moving trains. So, the upcoming series could bring in some of Shuri’s new inventions and introduce other pieces of technologies that involve Vibranium.

Involve Intense Plot Beats

Since this series will be a drama based in the Kingdom of Wakanda, Ryan Coogler could introduce some mature and intense narrative elements. Ever since T’Challa became King, the Wakandans have had to fight wars after wars. So, we could see the consequences of T’Challa’s decisions. The series could show us the impact of Wakanda opening up to the rest of the world.

Let Other Characters Shine

The first Black Panther movie was so successful because T’Challa had some great support from the other characters. Shuri, Okoye, Nakia, M’Baku and W’Kabi were all great. So, these characters could get some more screen time in the upcoming series. In fact, every episode of the series could be devoted upon different characters.

Introduce New Characters

New Wakanda Disney+ Series

The Wakanda series could bring some great new characters and villains into the mix. Ororo Munroe aka Storm could be introduced through the show. From there on, she could go on to join the X-Men in the MCU.

Explore The 5-year Time Jump

We still don’t know what happened during the 5 years between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Wakanda lost T’Challa and Shuri was snapped out of existence. So, they certainly must have elected a new ruler. M’Baku always came to T’Challa’s aid every time there was a threat to Wakanda. And he was the one whom Queen Ramonda, Shuri and Nakia chose to avenge T’Challa’s death in the first film. So, he could have surely been elected as the placeholder King in the absence of T’Challa.

Setting the series somewhere between 2018 and 2023 would be an easy way to give M’Baku, Okoye and Nakia some more screen time. Coogler won’t even have to explain the absence of T’Challa and Shuri.  And, we’d also get the answer for how things transpired in Wakanda after the snap.
