DC Fan Spots Wonder Woman Continuity Mistake in Shazam 2

Fans of the DC Universe have been quick to spot a major continuity mistake in Shazam 2, a mishap that might further harm the already underwhelming reception of the film. The second installment of David F. Sandberg’s superhero epic has not done well since its release in early March, receiving only 49% on Rotten Tomatoes and disappointing box office returns. According to Sandberg, the poor performance is “not like [it’s] a surprise,” given the film’s mismanaged marketing, inconsistent performances, and a lack of the charm that made the first Shazam! so successful.

However, one eagle-eyed fan on Twitter, @Ajay005RB, discovered a glaring mistake in the film that has gone unnoticed until now. The error has to do with a photo of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman in a newspaper on the wall that is physically impossible to be there. The still photo of Wonder Woman comes from the hero’s original solo movie that was set in 1917, during World War I, a time when digital cameras or cameras of cinematic quality did not exist. Furthermore, the photo is taken from an angle that physically would not make sense, given that the cameraman would have to be set above the edge of a trench in wartorn France.

While the mistake does not ruin the film, it does add to a growing list of grievances that fans have with Shazam! Fury of the Gods. In any cinematic universe, continuity errors like this are common, and the risk of making these mistakes increases tenfold when working within interconnected franchises. It is unfortunate that this was the image chosen by the Fury of the Gods team to use in the film, and it is now up to fans to comb over every frame of the film to see if there are any more mistakes to be found.

It is worth noting that such small continuity errors can happen when referring to characters or events that do not appear correctly in a project. However, Gal Gadot was on set for the production, so it would have been easy for someone to grab another snapshot of the actress to put in the newspaper. This oversight by the Fury of the Gods team might give rise to other issues that fans might find, further harming the film’s already weak reception.

Despite this continuity error, it remains to be seen whether or not it will have a significant impact on the reception of Shazam 2. The film’s poor box office performance and mixed reviews may already have overshadowed this particular mistake. However, it serves as a reminder that attention to detail and careful consideration of every aspect of a film can go a long way in creating a successful and well-received movie.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is available on VOD starting April 18th, giving fans the opportunity to watch and form their own opinions about the film and its continuity errors.
