Dave Filoni Confirms The Presence Of Orange Lightsabers In Ahsoka

So, there’s been a lot of buzz around the new Ahsoka trailer that debuted at Star Wars Celebration, and one of the things that have people talking is the color of the villains’ lightsabers. They’re orange, which is a departure from the traditional red that villains usually use in Star Wars. Well, Dave Filoni, the mastermind behind Ahsoka and many other Star Wars projects, confirmed in an interview with Screen Rant that yes, those are indeed orange lightsabers in Ahsoka series.

Filoni explained that the color was intentional and not accidental. He said that he wanted to do something a little different than the typical stark red used by villains in Star Wars, and he was inspired by how Darth Vader’s lightsaber had a bit of an orange tint to it at times. Filoni also teased that the orange color holds some significance that will be revealed in the show, saying “nothing is accidental.” Lightsaber colors are a big deal in Star Wars lore, with each color holding a different meaning.

Red is typically associated with those who use the dark side of the Force, so the fact that Baylon and Shin, the new villains in Ahsoka, are using orange lightsabers instead of red is intriguing. It’s unclear what this means, but Filoni’s comments suggest that it’s not just a random choice. Baylon and Shin are described as villains and are Force users who have ties to Grand Admiral Thrawn, who is also making his live-action debut in Ahsoka. It’s still unclear what their motivations are or how they tie into the larger story, but the fact that their lightsabers are orange instead of red suggests that they may not be fully Sith.

Maybe they’re still tapping into elements of the light side of the Force, or maybe their motivations are more complicated than typical Sith villains. Ahsoka is set to be a big moment for Star Wars fans, as it features the return of a number of beloved characters from Clone Wars and Rebels. However, Baylon and Shin are two of the few new characters in the show, so their lightsaber color is just one of the many mysteries surrounding them. With Filoni promising that there’s a deeper significance to the orange color, fans are eager to see what other surprises Ahsoka has in store for them.

Ahsoka is set to debut on Disney Plus in August of 2023, so we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see how this all plays out. But for now, we can speculate and theorize about what the orange lightsabers mean and what kind of villains Baylon and Shin will turn out to be.
