Chris Evans, well known for playing Captain America or Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has been very candid about his unwillingness to work on new films in the series. Evans had stated that he would only return if the plot was flawless and would not damage Steve Rogers’ reputation. Evans recently appeared on Good Morning America (GMA) to promote his new Apple TV+ film Ghosted. During the interview, Evans talked about the prospect of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and shared some intriguing details.
When questioned about any Marvel cameos in Ghosted during the interview, Evans said there were “some” unexpected appearances. He continued by praising the performers for accepting the task of supporting him in the movie. This raised more concerns regarding his prospective comeback as Steve Rogers. Evans revealed that he is “very precious” to the character and is “protective” of it. He expressed hesitation to return to the MCU, stating that “it feels a little soon” and that “there are other stories to tell.”
It’s clear that Evans values Steve Rogers’ legacy and wants to ensure that any future storylines do justice to the character. Interestingly, Evans also revealed in a past interview with Josh Horowitz that he would “love” to come back as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch from the Fantastic Four franchise. He shared that this would be an “easier sell” to him than returning as Steve Rogers. This is an interesting development, as Evans previously played Johnny Storm in the 2005 and 2007 Fantastic Four films.
Evans’ recent and previous comments about returning as Captain America have a consistent theme. It’s all about timing. Although hesitant to return due to the protective nature of Steve Rogers’ legacy in the MCU, Evans seems open to the idea of returning. This is supported by previous reports that Evans is “expected” to reprise his role as Steve Rogers on at least one Marvel property in the future, leaving the door open for a possible second film.
It’s safe to assume that when Evans returns as Captain America, it will be a major cameo, not just a throwaway cameo. Fans have speculated that the next two Avengers films could be a possible opportunity for Evans to reprise his role. It’s clear that Evans has a lot of love and respect for Steve Rogers and wants future stories to do the character justice. Although he has been hesitant to return to the MCU, fans can still look forward to the return of the beloved actor in the future. You can also see his appearances in other projects like Ghosted on Apple TV.
