The Curse Of Vecna Explained In Stranger Things

Stranger Things Season 4’s Part 1 is already out, and what a blast it is! The 7-episode saga features a fresh new villain, or should we say rotten and burnt, Vecna! He is an undead creature from Upside Down who is cursing Hawkins’ teenagers to death. His curse has already killed 3 teenagers in Part 1 itself, so viewers need to know how this curse works. And also, why is he targeting teenagers, of all people? Keep up with the post to find out every query about the curse of Vecna.

Netflix’s Stranger Things Season 4 started out with Hawkins that has experienced no world-ending threats in the last 6 months. But as the first episode kicked off the events, we see a monster figure trying to re-ignite Hawkins’ teenagers’ trauma. This monster, which Dustin named Vecna, looks like he is doing the Mind Flayer’s bidding as we see him killing these teenagers one by one. But, contrary to the Mind Flayer’s approach, Vecna is slow, smart, and more brutal. And that makes him the most terrifying creature to appear on the show.

The season ended with Vecna’s truth open to the viewers. I know I speak for everyone when I say that the moment the director revealed that Henry Creel, the son of. Victor Creel, is, in fact, 001, who is the friendly orderly, who gets banished into the Upside Down and becomes Vecna, we lost it. How they foreshadowed his future killing style with flashbacks revealed a lot about the character. Here is all you need to know about the monstrous being, that even all Stranger Things characters don’t know yet.

WHAT DO THEY MEAN BY VECNA’S CURSE

Vecna is the strongest version of all the kids at the Hawkins National Lab where Dr. Brenner gave them training lessons. He had some of the strongest telepathic powers as a test subject and now that he is in the Upside Down, and continuously absorbing its powers, he is stronger than ever.  When he was a child, he explained how he went into his family’s mind to see all their bad deeds. He revealed how he hated them for it and had to kill them because that was what they deserved. He thought of himself as a bogeyman, who will deliver death to those who deserve it. And as he grew in power in the Upside Down, he took things to another level.

Curse of Vecna

Vecna, using his telepathic abilities, started targeting teenagers who went through a great deal of trauma or had deep regrets buried in their min. As he revealed, the deeper they buried their regrets, the easier was for him to target them and instill hallucinations in their minds. He used the old grandfather clock in his old family home as a common vision in all those hallucinations. Then, the hallucinations become more and more common and they start seeing the people around them as the victims of their trauma. And as in the case of Max, the person who she reminisces about the most, Billy Hargrove. All of this is destructive to the teenager’s head, which is in a constant headache, experiences nightmares, and causes their noses to bleed.

All of this is mere foreplay for the all-strong Vecna. After 24 hours of constant hallucinations, he takes his victims into a final trance. They rise above in the air, and Vecna unleashes all his strength on them. As a result, every joint in their body snaps, disfiguring every bone, and their eyes get pulled back. It’s so gory that even full-grown adults flinched at the sight of the disfigured body. And from what it seems, he loves to see his victims take their last breath. And that contradicts his image of himself as the bogeyman.

HOW TO STOP HIM? HOW TO STOP HIM FROM ENTERING IN OUR REALM?

Vecna appears to be using his telepathic abilities to establish a connection between his victims and himself. And that needs a constant gateway for him to control someone that is not in the same realm as he is. Since the Stranger Things team seemed to have closed the gate for good in S3, Vecna creates his own gates. And since he is the original superhero, after whom came 002 through 011(who we love), he has the ability to open gates to the Upside Down quite easily. So even if they are successful in closing one gate, he will simply open another.

However, the Strange Things also revealed that there is one way to exit Vecna’s trance. And that is to wake from his illusion, which, currently, is only possible by something that activates a specific part of your mind. For Max and Victor Creel, it was their favorite track of music, but it could be different as we go further down the lane.

WHO DO VECNA WORKS FOR?

A tiny part of the new season takes place the Upside down, but when it does, we catch no sight of the Mind Flayer. Instead, we see the entire Upside down covered in moving vines, just like Vecna, so it raises the question if he has taken over the Hive Mind. But that would mean that he killed the Mind Flayer that wouldn’t just happen off-screen, would it? Also, as Dustin mentioned in the series, there is a possibility that Vecna is currently working for the Mind-Flayer. He could be the Mind Flayer’s ‘Five-star General’ as Dustin predicted. But it is too soon to tell.
