Samuel L. Jackson Does Not Want Oscars. He Wants to Play Mace Windu and Nick Fury

Our very own motherf**kin’ Uncle Sam is one of the greatest actors to have ever been! Throughout his career, he has proven his range by playing plenty of lead characters, bad guys, and supporting characters in serious movies, action movies, and straight-up comedies. He has been Nick Fury for over 14 years and has wanted to return as Mace Windu for even longer. And he still admits that he’d rather play Mace Windu and Nick Fury than chase after prestigious roles that would get him an Oscar nomination.

Mace Windu and Nick Fury

Recently in an interview, Jackson commented:

“I was never going to let the Oscars be a measure of my success or failure as an actor. My yardstick of success is my happiness: Am I satisfied with what I’m doing? I’m not doing statue-chasing movies. You know [whispers]: ‘If you do this movie, you’ll win an Oscar.’ No, thanks. I’d rather be Nick Fury. Or having fun being Mace Windu with a lightsaber in my hand.”

According to him, the Oscars aren’t the greatest measure of talent or even a movie. He previously said:

“My wife and I went to see ‘Bugsy’. Damn! They got nominated and I didn’t? I guess Black folk usually win for doing despicable shit on screen. Like Denzel [Washington] for being a horrible cop in ‘Training Day.’ All the great stuff he did in uplifting roles like ‘Malcolm X?’ No — we’ll give it to this motherfucker. So maybe I should have won one. But Oscars don’t move the comma on your cheque — it’s about getting asses in seats and I’ve done a good job of doing that.”

He even directed the attention to how No Way Home should have won “an Oscar for the most popular movie.” He said:

“They should have an Oscar for the most popular movie. Because that’s what the business is about,” Jackson said about the Marvel smash. “It did what movies did forever — it got people to a big dark room. All movies are valid. Some go to the cinema to be moved dearly. Some like superheroes. If somebody has more butts on seats it just means your audience is not as broad. There are people who have had successful careers but nobody can recite one line of their parts. I’m the guy who says shit that’s on a T-shirt.”

Well, the veteran is right in many ways. And in my eyes, he doesn’t need another Oscar to prove what a legend he is. He has starred in movies like Django Unchained, Pulp Fiction, and several others outside of Marvel and Star Wars. And, people have loved him in every role! So, the love he gets from us is the biggest prize he could get. Don’t you think? Would you like to see him return as Mace Windu? Let us know in the comments.
