The Marvel Cinematic Universe finally entered the realm of horror with Multiverse of Madness. Raimi wanted to make a superhero horror movie and he succeeded in that endeavor. Multiverse of Madness owes its horror elements to the crazed chase of Wanda Maximoff and to Stephen Strange’s ability to do anything to save his universe. Case in point, the moment Strange realized that Wanda will not stop at anything to get her hands on Chavez’s powers, he decided to use an alternate version of the Darkhold to dreamwalk into his own reality. But he re-animated a dead corpse just to dreamwalk. This was quite unnerving and what is more unnerving is this alternate Zombie Strange design. Take a look
Alternate Zombie Strange Design
Visual Development Supervisor at Marvel Studios Ian Joyner recently shared the above concept art for Multiverse of Madness on Instagram. She also says that this concept art comes from an earlier iteration of the design choices. We do love the man bun if we are being honest. It seems that the top-tie bun was a choice as early as the film’s conception. Moreover, this iteration of Zombie Strange also features a cut-up face which is quite different than the one we got in the final cut. Maybe that was because of CGI choices or some sort of aesthetic choice. But we much prefer the version we got in the movie to the one we see here.
This second image lets us see an alternate Zombie Strange design with a full look at his body and torn-up clothes. It is possible that if the studio had gone with this design they would have had to change the death scene of Defender Strange a little. If you look carefully you can see that the costume is torn from the middle. This implies that Defender Strange must have been impaled and mutilated at the same time in this costume. We think that that would have been a very gruesome death, especially for the MCU.
Let us know what you think about this alternate Zombie Strange design and keep watching this space for everything Marvel, DC, and Hollywood. Excelsior!!!
