Doomsday’s New Claws Are Far Superior To Wolverine’s

Marvel Comics’ Wolverine is one of their most popular properties, given how much cool people think his powers are. The best part of Wolverine’s abilities is, of course, his claws that protrude out from between his knuckles. They are so good that they are one of the coolest weapons in the comics world. Or they were until we saw Doomsday’s new claws. This 1995 comic issue proves Doomsday’s claws have been the coolest and the most dangerous, even more so than Wolverine. Keep up with the post to find out why we are changing our minds about Wolverine’s claws.

Wolverine, or as he was born, James Howlett, is one of the oldest mutants and possibly the first to be published in the Marvel comic lore. Born as a somewhat weak child who was prone to allergic reactions, he developed his powers when his real father shot his illegitimate father. That was when the claws first came out and he realized he was a mutant. This was around the late 1880s or early 1890s. Since then, he has been on a bunch of adventures, served in the military, and worked as a spy, a mercenary, and also been a samurai. He later joined the X-Men and has been in various teams over the years. Somewhere between these adventures, a group of scientists experimented on his body and infused his skeleton with indestructible Adamantium, giving him the iconic razor-sharp ever fan loves.

Doomsday’s new claws

Doomsday, on the other hand, is a being of unidentified origin and unimaginable power. It was later revealed that Colonel Zod from Krypton’s military general created him using his DNA. Doomsday made it his mission to rid the world of all Kryptonians and made his way to Earth to fight Superman. In their first fight, he killed him and laid waste to Metropolis, hence the name, Doomsday. Eventually, Superman returned, stronger than ever, defeated Doomsday, and banished him to the Phantom Zone. This is where he returned after every fight with Superman, and then he evolved further. And these multiple evolutions of his led us here!

HOW DOOMSDAY PROVED HIS CLAWS ARE WAY BETTER AND COOLER THAN WOLVERINE’S?!

1994’s DC Comics miniseries Superman/Doomsday: Hunter/Prey by Dan Jurgens and Brett Breeding, featured one of the most powered versions of Doomsday. He had evolved beyond anyone’s imagination and had developed stuck-out claws. These claws made comic book fans remember Wolverine’s as they emerged from between the knuckles, as well. These claws were so strong that they could pierce the skin of Superman, which in itself, is a mean feat. After all, not many things except for Krypton, have been able to hurt him. But we felt like bowing to his power when his claws hurt Darkseid, one of the strongest beings in the DC Universe.

But that is something Wolverine does on a daily basis. Penetrating impenetrable things is his forte, given his claws are made of one of the strongest metals. But what Doomsday does better is his fire-able claws. He can literally fire his claws like sharp s[pears and use them to reel in his opponents. This is what we see when Superman confronts him on Calaton (planet) in this 1994 issue. Adding on top of that, he has a lethal toxin on these claws that can affect beings as strong as Superman. And this is under the bright light of a yellow sun. It makes me sad to say, but Doomsday got Wolverine there. His claws don’t possess most of these abilities.

Despite his claws not being the coolest anymore, what makes Wolverine more interesting is his stories. Doomsday might be stronger but he is no competition to the Savage Wolverine. He may be a great comic book character but his greatest ability is not the coolest anymore.
