Doctor Strange 2 Writer Reveals the Superior Iron Man Easter Egg We All Missed
It’s been a while since Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness came out, and it is still smashing the box office. Fans loved how the movie featured the vast multiverse even better than they could’ve imagined in their wildest imaginations. The movie was a wild ride through the multiverse, and to know that one of those universes was a clever nod to the Superior Iron Man is a big deal. Because the VFX team of the Doctor Strange movie revealed this Superior Iron Man easter egg. Check it out below!
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was a visually beautiful movie, filled with incredible visual effects. The movie took the viewers on a ride through the multiverse filled with unimaginable possibilities. This was the perfect movie for Marvel creative teams to exhibit their abilities to hide easter eggs. And the more people watch the movie, the more we realize just how many hints and teases were in this movie. Now, those creative people behind the movie are attending interviews where they reveal more about the movie. And in a recent one, they revealed one easter egg that many eagle-eyed viewers missed.
The scene in question is the multiversal jumps scene where Strange and America jumped through 20 universes. And all of this in mere 40 seconds of footage. It was an incredible CGI fest where each universe was unique and had its own distinctive color palettes. To recap, we saw Strange and Chavez traveling through a bunch of universes, including one in which they were cartoons, and one where they were made of paint. They even traveled through a universe where everything was in black and white with Hydra flags in the background. Whereas the next one was brightly lit with Stark drones, which referred to Superior Iron Man.
HOW DID THE VFX TEAM HELP US SPOT THIS EASTER EGG?!
Every Marvel movie, nowadays, hires the best VFX companies to make their movies as real as they can. For MoM, Marvel gave the work to Framestore, a visual and special effects studio. After seeing how much people liked the CGI for the movie, they have been on a bunch of interviews. And in their recent one with Cinematography World, they talked about BTS of one of the best movies of 2022. This is what they had to say about the greatest 40 seconds cinema.
“20 unique individual worlds over the course of 40 seconds is no mean feat. We wanted to get an early start, so we began by creating a previs of each world. Once the client had approved, we started gathering and creating any development we needed to construct them. This was done by working on a purely previs environment in collaboration with the animation team, to get a general feel for the shots and the different worlds we could be moving through.”
Then they went on to reveal individual scenes, namely the paint world and the world where Tony Stark created his own destiny. Of course, the world we talk about is where we see Strange and Chavez traversing through a number of Stark drones. We can clearly recognize these from 2019’s Far From Home where Spider-Man gains control over them. What was his name, again? These drones are a clear reference to the world where Ultron succeeded and Tony Stark defeated all his enemies. This version of Stark became a ruthless superhero who was willing to go to any lengths to win. His feats over the years earned him the name of ‘Superior Iron Man’.
WHY IS THIS SUPERIOR IRON MAN EASTER EGG INTERESTING?
Before the movie came out, there were a lot of rumors about the cameos that this movie could feature in its run. Among them, one was the Superior Iron Man, wh, according to the rumors, would be played by Tom Cruise. This rumor was based on the fact that Tom Cruise was the first actor to be considered for the role, back in 2008. But since he was busy with his Mission Impossible movies, he could not appear as Irn Man. However, it still feels good to see the character’s existence out there. So, sooner or later, we might see more from him, even if it is not Tom Cruise who plays the character.
