The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown from almost nothing to mostly everything. It has invaded every facet of our lives in such a way that it has become very hard to have a conversation without mentioning a superhero. That is not to say that we don’t use it as hyperbole, which we do… But I think I trust the MCU as far as I can throw it (Iron Man 2, lol). However, the scope of the universe has become relatively wider over the years. Now even the multiverse is part of this world and we cannot stress how amazing that is. The nice thing about this is that you get to see the characters evolve and change into new and better versions of themselves. This is evidenced by the new look of Groot in the Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special.
James Gunn recently revealed that the Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special and Volume 3 of the franchise wrapped their filming. Now that the schedule is done, the team wanted to celebrate with some Christmas delight so they revealed a little something else with the announcement. Marvel Studios showed us new Christmas tree ornaments. One with each Guardian painted on it. In these ornaments, there is a hidden secret. A new reveal that makes us believe that Marvel Studios truly know how to drop hints for their fans. Let me reveal this sinister plot to you. Another deceit by Kevin Feige and James Gunn, now revealed by the fandom as reported on Quirkybyte.com.
New Look of Groot
The said Christmas ornaments are showcased above for your perusal. As you can see there is a clear depiction of a post-teenage Goot who has been decorated with lights. It seems that Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 and Holiday Special are going to take place in present-day MCU. You see, these films are slated to take place after the events of Love And Thunder and that film has its own timeline. Since Thor has to leave the Guardians in the MCU and then train to get back his prime form, it will be a long time before Volume 3 and The Holiday Special takes place.
So Groot will have plenty of time to grow up into an adult. Maybe not a full-fledged adult, but like someone in their 20s he will have his feet on the ground and his head in the sky. In the case of Groot, his roots will always be set on the Earth but he can extend upwards as much as wants. We made a tree joke and explained it. Sue us! xD. Moving on, someone might argue that Groot has not grown up because we can clearly see that he is still a teenager in the Love And Thunder footage.
Well, our theory is that when the Guardians initially leave Groot would be a teenager. But after Thor has buffed up and needs them for the final battle, they will return with Young Man Groot after some time. Not an official name, something I just made up. But you get my drift, no need to keep explaining it. Groot will grow up, let’s move on from the what to the when.
The Future
Either we will get a heartfelt reunion/to reveal in Love and Thunder or we get a cold open in The Holiday Special/Volume 3. The trailer footage of Love And Thunder is immaterial because Marvel has a habit of lying in their trailers. We cannot give you the exact moment it will happen in the MCU because it is open to speculation. But the two best opportunities have been iterated above.
I believe the next stage of the MCU will see all the heroes gain even more prowess and power in their particular domains so that they are ready to fight the multiversal war at the end of Phase 6.
