Moon Knight

There are a lot of shows and projects under development from Marvel Studios for both TV and big screen. The shows in Disney+ will introduce completely fresh faces to the roster of heroes and villains in the franchise. Moon Knight is the most exciting bit amongst these characters and it surely going to be one of the most exciting additions based on the darker tone of his character. Fans have been trying to focus on the various elements of the character associated with his disorder. One of the elements of the character has been something that has come out more clearly than the others.

Why Oscar Isaac Has a British Accent

Since Moon Knight is a lesser-known character in Marvel, fans are interested to see how it works out in the franchise. There have been cases where the franchise has managed to get interesting narratives out of lesser-known characters. Ever since the first teaser for the series, there have been various details for the character that is actually quite similar to his comic book appearance. Even though the trailer only gave us a glance at the characters in the series we managed to get a proper look at them with the release. But the thing that has become one of the weirdest parts about Marc Spector has to be his British accent even though the character is actually American.

Why Does Marc Spector Have A British Accent?

The comics actually show that Marc Spector was born in Chicago, Illinois and that clearly indicates he should have an American accent. But this could be because of his disorder which actually means that this could be one of his multiple personalities. Marc Spector suffers from a dissociative personality disorder because Khonshu created a psychic connection between him and Marc in order to use the boy as his avatar on Earth. Marc later ends up befriending Steven Grant who turns out to be one of his many personalities. This might mean that there could be a lot more of his personalities that we will get to see in the series with more sets of accents.

Oscar Isaac Talks About The Accent

The actor quite clearly stated that he felt that there were too many characters in New York and adding a character from London will be a unique move from the studio. Isaac actually used the characters as a means of showcasing his passion for English comedies. The actor stated:

I started listening to accents that are kind of, you know, Northeast London, and then just committed to that and found this [character]. It wasn’t just about accent, but it was also about his timidness, but also wanting to connect with people, but not quite knowing how.

Working on the multiple personalities actually required a lot of help because getting into these characters could be quite difficult. In order to work on this, the actor had to bring in his own biological brother to work on both Steven Grant and Marc Spector. When talking about his brother Mike Hernandez, he stated:

That was really helpful to have someone that’s not only a great actor but also shares my DNA to play off of. But something that I didn’t anticipate was how technically demanding that was going to be — having to show up and decide which character I was going to play first, and then trying to block that out, give my brother notes, and then do the scene, and then switch characters, and then figure it out.

Moon Knight Director Praises Oscar Isaac’s Take

Why Oscar Isaac Has a British Accent

Director Aaron Moorhead talked about how Oscar Isaac brought his own elements to the series and to the persona of Moon Knight. In an interview with Digital Spy, he praised the actor by stating:

The first time that Oscar was not even playing Steven – because we weren’t just reading all the lines. He was talking about Steven. And that’s when he first dropped into the accent, and it was absolutely beautiful. And that was when it clicked for us that he was all in. You know, he’s already just thinking like this person. That was extremely exciting.
