With some major sequels set to come out this year, we are going to see another entry into the Wizarding world too. The Fantastic Beasts movies will have another entry in the franchise with a third film set to come out soon. Even though the earlier movies made partial references to the Harry Potter franchise, the same won’t be the case this time around. We will get to see the narrative explore a character that has appeared quite prominently in the Harry Potter films, Dumbeldore. We will get to see a certain secret surrounding Dumbledore being explored in the movie. It seems that the trailer of Fantastic Beasts 3 might have already teased the secret from the previous film.

A completely new character made its debut in the Wizarding World with Credence Barebone. The first movie showed him as a rather timid and soft persona but soon we would get a hint of the absolute danger that he might pose to the world. There is an immense amount of magical power that is hidden inside him. Fans were absolutely surprised when the sequel, Crimes of Grindlewald, revealed that Credence is actually Aurelius Dumbledore, brother of Albus Dumbledore himself. It came as an absolute surprise to the fans but there was still a lot to explain that was left out.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them shows us that Credence is an Obscurial. According to the wizards, an Obscurial is a child who has suppressed magical gifts that end up taking the form of a dangerous and formless black mass. It was further revealed that generally those possessed by an Obscurus don’t actually end up making it past childhood and die as the creature gains powers. This clearly indicated that Credence was an exception since had managed to survive being an Obscurial till he became an adult. But the reason for this survival might be linked to his Dumbledore bloodline and also hint at the reason behind the death of Albus’s sister.

Fans of the franchise were not believing the detail that was shared by Grindlewald in the movie. According to them, the villain might have shared this in order to shock Albus thus paving the way for a getaway. This is supported by the fact that there is a certain age difference between Aurelius and his supposed brother. At the same time, there is quite a complexity when it comes to his parents in the narrative. But there came a certain confirmation of his Dumbledore relation when it was revealed that the bird he was looking after was a Phoenix.
The trailer for Fantastic Beasts 3 has an interesting moment that might have spoiled the secret somehow. A particular moment from the trailer sees the same Phoenix appearing and we could hear Albus saying, “Things are not quite what they appear.” Fans have linked this to the possibility that Aurelius might actually be related to Albus’ sister Ariana. Based on Ariana’s story, she could have been an Obscurial herself. Her mother died due to a magical explosion and that might have been because of the Obscurus possessing Ariana. This very Obscurus could actually be the one that now inhabits Aurelius.
This detail might prove that there is a completely different way in which Aurelius might be related to the Dumbledores. It also explains why he is able to control his Obscurus form and direct the chaotic magic a lot more easily. The trailer actually shows a showdown between him and Albus and the very reason could be the one that has been theorized above. There is a lot to unpack in the narrative and it would be interesting to see how the movie manages to do that.
