There have been reports of a new season of Daredevil under development for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This has made fans wonder about other interesting characters we might get a chance to see join in along with him. One of the most common names associated with this possible return is Iron Fist. While Daredevil might have indicated about Iron Fist joining the franchise, there is another major project that was also associated with this return. Shang-Chi is a character that has some links to Iron Fist in the Marvel comics. There is a clear chance that we can see Iron Fist in Shang-Chi 2, now that the Netflix Marvel characters are getting rebooted entries in the MCU.
Netflix Marvel Shows Canon To MCU
Earlier when Marvel Studios released their shows on the Disney+ platform, it became clear that there was a serious expansion of the MCU. This saw some rather interesting characters making their debut in Phase 4. But during the release of WandaVision, it was clarified that this series will be the first that will be canon to the MCU. While this continued to be the way, there was an interesting twist when Daredevil and Kingpin ended up appearing in the franchise with two different projects. Thus we became sure that these characters from the Netflix shows were canon to the franchise.
Since Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio managed to make it to the MCU, fans assumed other Netflix Marvel stars will also have a somewhat similar fate. But these MCU debuts don’t actually prove anything regarding the other characters making it to the MCU. While Daredevil was the most successful amongst the projects, others didn’t really manage to see this much success. One of the projects that actually failed to live up to the expectations of the fans was Iron Fist. Fans have been quite sure that Marvel will reboot this character for the franchise and recast for the role.
Iron Fist In Shang-Chi 2?
Shang-Chi was amongst the most successful MCU projects last year and with an impressive $432 million at the box office, we can be sure about a sequel. There hasn’t been any announcement regarding the sequel but we are assured that it is going to come up soon. While the plot for the sequel will be a mystery, the actor Simu Liu has indicated his wishes for the sequel. He stated:
In what way does Shaun fit in with the rest of the MCU? Who are you going to see? What kind of crazy team-ups? What kinda tie-ins, Easter eggs? I’m just as much in the dark and everyone else, so I don’t know anything, but I’m excited to dive into that process.
One of the major characters that Shang-Chi could team up with in the sequel could be Iron Fist himself. The characters have met multiple times in the comics and they have actually shared certain respect for each other. One of the biggest links is the idea that Ta Lo in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is actually inspired by K’un-Lun in the comics. The latter is the same place that was discovered by Danny Rand which resulted in him becoming Iron Fist. When the two characters ended up meeting, they had an instant mutual respect for one another.
Pip The Troll Actor Talks About How MCU Can Introduce Iron Fist
Patton Oswalt was absolutely correct with the theory regarding the way Boba Fett managed to survive in Star Wars. Now the comedian and actor have indicated how MCU might end up introducing Iron Fist in the franchise. In an interview with Collider, the star said:
I think that Marvel is going to realize that they had an amazing franchise in their laps for free in their Netflix shows with Misty Knight and Colleen Wing, those two actors. Someone in five years, hopefully sooner, will realize, ‘Do that!’ A low-stakes, gritty, street-level superhero noir with those two characters, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing. They’re sitting right there! So I’m predicting that someone at Marvel will realize what they’ve got and they will run with it.
It is not yet sure whether we will get to see Iron Fist get his own chance in the MCU like Daredevil. But that would require to show how the Daredevil arc is brought into the MCU. Iron Fist is a rather essential character amongst the Defenders and Shang-Chi would be the perfect means to introduce him in the franchise. It also remains to be seen if other characters from the Netflix shows will join in the franchise.
