11 Things We Got To Know From The Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer

It has been quite a long time since it was first indicated that we will get to see Ewan McGregor reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a solo project. As the project got delayed over the years, it felt as if this was not actually going to happen. A movie was actually announced that was later dropped following the less than expected reception of the Han Solo venture, Solo: A Star Wars Story from 2018. But now we will get to see a complete series revolving around the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi right before the events of A New Hope. Fans have a lot of questions regarding the series and whether it will have references to the other Star Wars shows that are under Disney+. Let’s take a look at everything we got to know about the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series from the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer.

First, watch the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer if you haven’t already:

Luke Skywalker

We are well aware that Obi-Wan used to live quite close to where Luke Skywalker was being brought up. He was looking over the safety of the child and making sure that he finds out about himself when the time comes. The trailer does show a young Luke playing around as Obi-Wan is checking upon him. This was actually a much-discussed thing about the series and we are finally aware that Luke will be seen in the series. But it is not yet known whether the character will have a major role to play considering Obi-Wan’s interaction with him could put him in danger. There’s a clear reference to Anakin’s childhood as we can see Luke playing as if he is in a pod race, something Anakin did do when he was around this age.

Obi-Wan’s Voiceover

Obi-Wan has an interesting voiceover intro in the trailer. This clearly goes to show the state of things for the Jedi and how terrible things have become following the rise of the Dark side. We are well aware that Obi-Wan does have a journal in the narrative and it could be used in the series. Instead of having characters do the exposition in the movies, we might get a chance to see Obi-Wan give us the status of things in the universe. But at the same time, this could also be him communicating with the other Jedi masters. It was revealed that Obi-Wan has by now figured out how to communicate with Qui-Gon and thus he might actually be talking to Qui-Gon here.

Nur

Over the years, we have gotten to see a lot of references from the Star Wars franchise other than the movies become canon to the cinematic universe. The games and other animated shows from the franchise have actually ended up providing some essential insight into the world of these movies. Fans of the Jedi: Fallen Order games will get a chance to see Nur, the water Moon in the Mustafar system appear in the series. The trailer actually shows some Fortress Inquisitors that are being used to capture the Jedi. We will probably be seeing Vader and other characters giving their orders by communicating with them.

Obi-Wan’s Cave

Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer

Obi-Wan was introduced in A New Hope as living in a hut on Tatooine when Luke goes to look for him. But the trailer shows him living in a cave even though it is not made clear whether this is home or it might be some secret home that he had to get accustomed to. But fans might notice that this cave is actually quite similar to Mortis, where he had managed to communicate with Qui-Gon Jinn. This could be a further indication that we might a chance to see the latter make an appearance in this series. It could also be a residence he has provided himself upon feeling this is what he deserves.

John Williams Returns

One of the most essential parts of the Star Wars narrative has been the soundtrack. Provided by John Williams, this soundtrack earned him the Best Original Score Academy Award. Williams had decided to return to lend his music to the series and fans got to hear three different pieces of music he has done for the series. These include ‘Battle of The Heroes’, ‘Anakin’s Dark Deeds‘, and ‘The Duel of the Fates‘. Darth Maul will have a confrontation with Obi-Wan quite later when he would discover the Jedi is residing in Tatooine. We might get to see each of these musical pieces play an essential role in some of the major moments of the series.

The Cast of Characters

Some of the major characters set to appear in the series were already known. This includes the characters of Uncle Ben and Aunt Beru being reprised by Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse. But the trailer actually showed some more characters associated with the projects. This includes Rupert Friend who will be seen playing the role of the Grand Inquisitor with the Sung Kang and Moses Ingram playing the other two Inquisitors, Reve and the Fifth Brother. Indira Verma also appeared and seems to play the role of an Imperial Officer. Other exciting appearances include a droid named NED who might be voiced by Kumail Nanjiani or other stars associated with the series like O’Shea Jackson Jr. or Benny Safdie.

Daiyu

A completely new planet could also be seen in the trailer named Daiyu. It’s been quite a long since we actually got to see another new planet appear in the franchise. This would pave the way for a lot of new characters and societies to be brought to life with the details associated with this new planet. According to the EW.com article about the show:

It’s [Daiyu] got a graffiti-ridden nightlife, and is kind of edgy. It’s just got a different lane and a different feeling.

The Inquisitors

An interesting amount of attention in the trailer is given to the Inquisitors who might appear as the prime antagonists of the series. They are actually Jedi hunters who were trained by Darth Vader himself in order to track down and execute the surviving Jedi in the Galaxy following the implementation of Order 66. Fans could actually see four different Inquisitors appear in the series, which include the Grand Inquisitor, the Fifth Brother, an unknown one, and the one that might have a major role, Reva. These characters were quite popular when they appeared in the animated shows and it would be interesting to see their live-action renditions.

Leaving Tatooine

The major question fans wondered about with the series was regarding Obi-Wan’s location during the series. It would be fair to assume he doesn’t as the character was dedicated to making sure no harm comes in the way of Luke. But the trailer actually indicates that we might get to see him leave Tatooine. This is actually interesting considering he wouldn’t leave the planet for any ordinary reason. Leaving the planet might be a movie that would be a part of his need to protect Luke. The trailer clearly shows that there will be various moments where we would see him being hunted when he goes to Daiyu.

Uncle Owen’s Encounter With The Inquisitors

In a rather intense moment from the trailer, we got to see Reva interacting with Uncle Owen. Reva seems to be one of the essential antagonists of the series and this might be the closest the Inquisitors might have gotten to Luke Skywalker. The idea that they got this close could be the very reason that Obi-Wan is forced to take things into his hands and fight them. As Uncle Owen will be appearing in the series with Joel Edgerton reprising the role, we might get a chance to see the dynamic between him and Obi-Wan being played out in the series.

Honorable Mention – Darth Vader

Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer

This was not actually a part of the trailer but Entertainment Weekly revealed the first look at Darth Vader’s return. Hayden Christensen, who will be seen reprising his role, was asked about whether we will get to see the character without the iconic mask. The actor only stated, “I wish I could tell you. I’m sworn to secrecy.” This only increases the excitement for the character. Series writer Joby Harold stated while talking about the character:

His shadow is cast across so much of what we do. And the degree of his proximity to that shadow is something that we’ll discover. But he is very much a part of the show emotionally for Obi-Wan, and possibly beyond that as well.
