2022 is going to be a big year for comic book movies with projects set to come out from both Marvel & DC. Both the franchises will see some of their biggest narratives unfold in the cinemas with fan-favorite characters. It is interesting to note that the DC Extended Universe will be using the concept of the multiverse this year as Michael Keaton will be reprising his role as Batman. Meanwhile, the MCU has been working on its version of this concept for quite a long time now. It was only last year that we got to witness the true impact of it as the three Spider-Men appeared together. In a way, we can say that Doctor Strange 2 and The Flash will be dealing with some similar concepts but in their own manner. Let’s take a look at some of the most interesting similarities between The Flash and Doctor Strange 2.Â
Multiverse
The most obvious thing that is common in both the movies has to be the fact that both of them deal with the Multiverse. The Flash will mark the first time that the DCEU will be dealing with the concept of the multiverse. This is not the same in the case of Marvel as the MCU has been working on the Multiverse for quite a long time now. We got the first hint at the chaos that it can cause with Spider-Man: No Way Home. Things will get a lot more complicated with Multiverse of Madness as the title clearly suggests. There is yet no hint at to what level the Multiverse will be dealt with in The Flash.
Vast Characters
We will get to see a wide variety of characters make an appearance in both movies. The Flash will see a lot of DC characters make their appearance and we will also get to see some interesting Marvel characters appear in Doctor Strange 2. Interestingly, we will also get to see multiple renditions of the same character in both movies. The Flash will actually see two different Batman’s appear along with two renditions of Flash also appearing. At the same time, Multiverse of Madness will actually see multiple versions of Doctor Strange appear. Not only that, the rumors suggest that we will also get to see Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man appear again.
Actors Reprising Roles
With the concept of the Multiverse being worked upon, fans have now hoped to see some interesting appearances in both projects. The very first effect of this was seen in the MCU when we saw Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire reprise their roles as Spider-Man in No Way Home. That was just the starting as the movie also has our favorite villains from past Spider-Man films appearing with interesting roles. Another major news was Michael Keaton reprising his role as Batman in The Flash. That actually gave some clearance towards the status of Batman in the DCEU. Multiverse of Madness has rumors of a lot more of the past Marvel stars making their MCU debut.
An Important Death
There are some serious rumors regarding certain characters in both cinematic universes. According to these rumors, we will get to see some significant deaths in both the projects and that will impact the narrative of the movies. Doctor Strange 2 might see the death of Wong as the trailer saw him in a rather vulnerable circumstance. This death might see Strange being compelled to take some serious action. The Flash has indicated that we might get to see Batfleck’s demise as this will be the last appearance for the character. Ben Affleck’s Batman was a mentor to Flash and his death might actually see a similar progression in the narrative.
Major Reboots
The status of DCEU has been a lot of confusion in the past few years. There are a lot of projects that came out and yet they weren’t able to give a clear insight into the status of this cinematic universe. But The Flash might actually give a clear perspective towards what we can expect to see from this universe. The events of this movie might give a complete reboot to the DCEU with a new Batman. Doctor Strange 2 might not be doing the same thing but it will try to do something like that with the possible appearance of the mutants in the MCU. Wanda might introduce the world of mutants using her reality-warping powers.
Time Manipulation Powers
Both these projects are solo ventures for some of the most important characters in both franchises. These characters actually have some of the most awesome powers amongst most of the superheroes. While one is a speedster, the other is actually the sorcerer supreme with absolutely crazy powers. But the common thing about both of them is that they can bend time according to their will. Whether we will get to see them use these powers in these projects remains to be seen.
Villains
There is much mystery regarding the villains in both movies. The Flash hasn’t shared any detail about the villain for the movie yet but based on the story fans are wondering it will feature Reverse-Flash. With another version of Barry Allen appearing in the movie, we can expect to see this being the sinister version of him. The trailer for Multiverse of Madness actually indicated that we will get to see a Dark Doctor Strange. There are other reality-bending villains appearing in the movie too but there is no clarity about who will actually be the prime antagonist in the movie.
