Black Widow was one of the most significant characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and she has been a part of it for quite a long time now. The major reason why the character works has to definitely include Scarlett Johansson’s performance in the role. She came under a lot of light recently for her lawsuit with Disney over the release of the movie simultaneously in the Disney+ streaming platform and theaters. This lawsuit was then settled and Scarlett Johansson was paid her due amount ($40 million) for the losses she had faced. The actress reflected upon the Disney Black Widow lawsuit during an American Cinematheque event.

During an interview with AP Entertainment, the actress talked about the entire Black Widow-Disney lawsuit thing. She clarified that going ahead with the lawsuit was something that she considers an act of courage. Then she mentioned that “it’s important in general to know your own worth and stand up yourself.” There was a lot more she talked about including how the entertainment industry has evolved over the years. This was important because the actress then mentioned that there was a time when speaking out about such injustices would cause the actor to “never work again or […] be blacklisted in some way.”
After much delay, almost a year, we finally got to see Black Widow which was the character’s first solo venture in the franchise. This meant a lot for the fans of the character considering she had died during the events of Avengers: Endgame and that would mean that this would be the last time we would see Scarlett Johansson take on the role. But the release of the project followed with major controversy when Disney decided to release the movie simultaneously with a release on the Disney+ streaming platform. The actress, who was also one of the producers of the project, filed a lawsuit against Disney since this affected the bonuses that she would have gotten based on the movie’s theatrical performances.
Later the lawsuit was settled outside the court and the actor stated:
I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.
The Black Widow star will be seen being involved in an upcoming MCU project even though there hasn’t been any clarification on what this project might be. This settlement confirms that work on Disney’s upcoming Tower of Terror film will continue with her involvement. Her boldness in speaking up against a large studio like Disney indicates that hopefully there will be a time that workers will be able to receive the pay that they deserve.
