Is Uncle Ben Still Alive In The MCU?

Spider-Man: No Way Home acted as a tribute to the history of the character in live-action. It has proven to be one of the most interesting projects from the MCU this year. The movie was a culmination of the Homecoming trilogy with each project helmed by Jon Watts. It definitely proves to be a worthy ending to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy. There are a lot of parallels that the movie draws from past arcs of the Spider-Man movies. But still compared to the other movies the MCU Spider-Man did not have an origin story and this has allowed a fair amount of questions to be asked about the character. One of the biggest questions about MCU’s Spider-Man is what exactly happened to Uncle Ben in this universe? Is Uncle Ben still alive???

Spider-Man: No Way Home

No Way Home managed to bring a lot of characters from the world of Spider-Man that we had witnessed over the years. The movie featured villains like Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Lizard, and Sandman. These villains returned with the actors reprising their roles from the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and the Amazing Spider-Man movies. We even got to see Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire return to their roles in what has to be one of the most awesome moments from the movie.

It was made obvious that these characters exist in the multiverse and each version is a variant of each other. J. Jonah Jameson exists in all the Spider-Man versions but the same actor plays the character in both Sam Raimi’s trilogy and the MCU one. One of the most significant moments from the movie saw the Spider-Men talking about the common things in their arcs. Here we hear them talk about the most essential line in Spider-Man’s narrative – “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.” While the other Spider-Men got to hear these words from Uncle Ben, Peter actually got to hear them from Aunt May. This makes us wonder about what might have happened to Uncle Ben’s variant in the MCU.

What Happened To MCU’s Uncle Ben?

Is Uncle Ben still alive

There have been various references to Uncle Ben’s status in the MCU Spider-Man movies. But No Way Home actually makes us wonder about Uncle Ben in the MCU even more. The past references include Peter telling Tony Stark he puts on the mask to prevent “bad things from happening to good people,” in Captain America: Civil War. Another reference was made when Spider-Man: Far From Home saw Peter trying to avoid the major tragedy that May had been through.

Spider-Man's Uncle Ben Receives His Biggest MCU Reference Yet In New Episode of What If

None of these Easter eggs directly reference the character but there are some that actually point at his existence. One of these has to be in Spider-Man: Far From Home again where we saw Peter carrying a bag with the initials for Benjamin Franklin Parker. The other clear reference was in the Disney+ animated series What If…? where we saw Peter mentioning his uncle’s name when he was recounting the people he had lost in his life. There is a chance that this Peter might have a very different Uncle Ben than the ones we have been used to so far.

Is Uncle Ben still alive

The biggest question about Uncle Ben in MCU comes when we see Peter visiting Aunt May’s grave at the end of No Way Home. If Uncle Ben was dead like the other Peter Parker variants that we got to see in the movie then we would have also seen his grave next to Aunt May’s. But we didn’t get to see any such gravestone next to Aunt May’s and that definitely indicates that Uncle Ben or the variant of him in the MCU might still be alive.

While we might have not gotten to see any such Uncle Ben mention in for the MCU in the movie, we definitely got to see the effect of Uncle Ben’s words spoken by Aunt May in the movie. Aunt May acts the same way that Uncle Ben did in the other Spider-Man movies as her death shows a certain maturity in the MCU’s Peter Parker. The movie sees him actually become a lot more mature than we had seen him be in his previous solo ventures in the MCU. Let’s hope that if there is an Uncle Ben in this universe we get to see him sometime soon.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is in theaters now. It stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, J.K. Simmons, Jon Favreau, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Rhys Ifans, Thomas Haden Church and the previous two Spider-Men, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
