20th Century Fox Studios’ most well-known franchise, Deadpool, is getting a sequel. The Deadpool sequel is going through the same viral campaign as the former movie once perfected. With the release date of the movie nearing, the star cast of Deadpool 2 is in a multi city-wide tour all across the United States to promote their latest venture. While Deadpool 2 is a well-known movie and is one of the most anticipated productions of 2018, it is sandwiched between another two movies coming from two well-known franchises – Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War and LucasFilm’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. How do you manage to market your movie when there are such tentpole movies like these up and around your butt? You make fun of other movies of course. David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 has found a cool way to let its voice be heard. A New Deadpool 2 clip trolls Batman vs Superman in the coolest way possible!!!
Oh boy, this will raise a lot of eyebrows, won’t it?!?!?
Deadpool’s greatest ability is his ability to break the fourth wall and take jabs at pop culture phenomenon. Deadpool did a pretty good job at making the audience laugh at the super self aware jokes back in 2016. And the Director intends for Ryan Reynolds to continue his Fourth wall breaking antics into the sequel. But this time, the subject could be a little controversial. Deadpool 2 has decided to pick on the controversial Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice movie directed by Zack Snyder under Warner Bros. Studios’ banner.
Deadpool 2 also picks on and takes jabs at the MCU’s Thanos but Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, has taken it in good spirit. He even went as far as to say the jabs were pretty spot on. But we forget that Deadpool is a Marvel Character and the Fox Studios still have high chances of assimilating into the larger Disney franchise. But Deadpool taking a jab at a rival studio could lead to a defamation lawsuit. The Fourth wall breaking antics are cool as long as they don’t touch up on anyone’s nerves.
Good Morning America recently hosted the lead stars of Deadpool 2 in their show. While the chit chat went on, the show did show us a sneak peek at the upcoming Deadpool 2 movie. The preview is short but it does have new scenes not seen in any other trailer released for the movie. The video features Deadpool coming home to Vanessa and the latter asking what took him so long. Deadpool replies:
“caped badass, but then I discovered his mom is named Martha too”
This is clearly a snarky comment jabbed at BVS: Dawn of Justice’s infamous Martha scene during the final fight between Superman and Batman. The DCEU would be none too happy with the way Deadpool os using their own name to kick up laughter in the theaters.
Here is the video we are talking about:
The scene in question is a different version of a similar one shown in the official trailer for the movie. The scene shows Deadpool coming home to greet Vanessa with her asking the same question to which Wade Wilson gives a different reply. He says he was late because he was rounding up all the gluten in the world and launching it into space. That was a jab at yet another DC Movie – Superman: Quest for Peace. This time they have used another iteration of the same scene. Maybe the crew of Deadpool 2 shot several scenes of the same set and are using different ones for the preview clips and the marketing campaigns.
The Early Reactions for Deadpool 2 have been positive so far. The merc with a mouth has had some troubles when the movie was resent to make way for reshoots. For a movie that takes jabs at other movies for being ‘sucky’, Deadpool itself hasn’t done a good job at being flawless. Let’s hope Deadpool 2 passes the acid test with flying colors. If it doesn’t, all the jokes the merc makes will blow on his face. Deadpool won’t need jokes anymore if the sequel bombs. Deadpool 2 itself will be the joke. Let’s hope nothing of that sort happens.
