DS 2 May Bring The Strongest Enemy of Doctor Strange (It’s Not Evil Strange)

Fans were surprised with a teaser for the next big Marvel Cinematic Universe project Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness in the end-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The teaser featured a lot of things that fans are trying to break down one by one to understand what we might get to witness in the project. From the looks of the teaser, it is surely gonna be a crazy ride when the movie comes out. The element of horror that was mentioned to be a part of the movie surely seems to be there along with the vision of Sam Raimi, who is directing the project.  But things might turn out to be rather challenging for Doctor Strange this time in terms of the chaos that will unfold. It is possible that that Multiverse of Madness might also bring the strongest enemy of Doctor Strange (and it’s not the Dark Doctor Strange).

Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness Teaser

Doctor Strange has been able to establish himself quite successfully in the MCU even though the character has featured only in a few movies. We are well aware of the sorcery world and the possible threats that Earth might be facing based on them. The first solo outing for the character was only a hint at the things that these sorcerers protect the world from. Now the trailer for the second venture is finally here and it seems that things are going to a whole new scale with much bigger enemies to face.

While the teaser features Doctor Strange facing an enemy with the return of Baron Mordo, there are much bigger enemies he might be facing. The price of multiversal chaos could be quite heavy on Strange as he uncovers some interesting details. It was an absolute shock to see Strange face against an evil Doctor Strange who may or may not have been the same one from What If…?. But Strange’s most powerful might be the all-knowing and immortal Shuma-Gorath.

Who Is Shuma Gorath?

Fans had been wondering about the tentacled monster ever since the character appeared in some of the merchandise that was revealed for the project. There has been a massive indication that this will actually be Shuma Gorath. According to comics, Shuma-Gorath belongs to a race of immortal, nigh-omnipotent beings who predate the universe and are known as the Elder Beings. Considering we have been told that Doctor Strange 2 will feature elements it is no wonder that Shuma Gorath will be featuring in it. The character is actually based on the works of the author H.P. Lovecraft and it was supposed to be a 616-Marvel Universe rendition of a Lovecraftian creature.

Strongest Enemy of Doctor Strange

Shuma Gorath is the ruler of various dimensions in the Multiverse and he was once even the ruler of Earth. Other than Doctor Strange, this monster has faced some rather interesting characters that include the likes of Vishanti, Conan the Barbarian, etc. One of the most brutal narratives in Marvel saw Strange killing the Ancient One when the latter became a pawn to the godlike being.

The Scale of The Challenge Strange Faces

The character of Shuma Gorath is considered to be “omnipotent” in the true meaning of the word. There is hardly any chance that Strange has against this villain. There have been various events in the comics that saw a variety of him trying to invade Earth because the Elder God is actually held in an alternate dimensional prison. A very simple reference would be that even in his astral form Shuma Gorath could be one of the biggest threats Strange will ever face.

Marvel's What If Ending Explained: Infinity Stones & Black Widow Teases Revealed

Shuma Gorath was hinted at in past projects of the MCU two times in the Disney+ animated series What If…?. One of the first times was when Peggy Carter becomes Captain Carter, the German soldiers summon an ancient evil who was intentionally made to look quite similar to Shuma Gorath. Another time we got to see this character in the series was when Strange becomes evil and devours powerful beings but is then defeated by a tentacled monster. When it is shown that he is a lot more dedicated towards his goal, Strange is finally able to devour the monster.

Strongest Enemy of Doctor Strange

There were a lot of events seen unfolding in the teaser and thus it can’t be confirmed if we will actually get to see Gorath as the main antagonist. There is a chance that he might be just one of the tricks of Doctor Strange Supreme himself. All things aside, it is obvious that the movie will reference the events of the Doctor Strange episode from What If…? majorly. Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness will be released in theaters worldwide on May 6, 2022.
