Some movies make an impression on us in such ways that we could not help ourselves but sit in anticipation for the sequel. But owing to scheduling issues, budgetary constraints, or continuity requirements these sequels don’t come out as early as we would like. We have collected 10 upcoming movie sequels that are coming at least 5 years after their predecessors. Take a look at them and let us know if we missed any of your favorites down in the comments below:

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange premiered on October 13, 2016, in Hong Kong and November 4 in the USA. The film brought magic and mystic arts to the MCU and introduced us to a whole new dimension of power. This movie’s after-credits scene also put Steven and Mordo on a collision course with each other but that confrontation would be delayed because of the Infinity Saga. Now the score will finally be settled on 6 May 2022 when Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness finally comes out.

Top Gun: Maverick

The original Top Gun came out on May 16, 1986. It was a great movie that cemented Tom Cruise’s role as the maverick in Hollywood. This movie made the actor’s career for him. However, the story was mostly self-contained and did not need to be expanded upon, or so we thought. Now, on 27th May 2022, we will get a new movie titled Top Gun: Maverick, the true sequel to the original movie coming out almost 36 years after the original.

Avatar 2

Avatar was a movie that came out on 18 December 2009, when Hollywood was just starting to experiment with CGI-focused movies. This was still an unchartered territory and no one knew whether a world created purely from CGI would work or not. But it did and fans fell in love with it. Now Avatar 2 will come out on 16th December 2022, almost exactly 13 years after the original.

Minions: Rise of Gru

Upcoming Movie Sequels

Minions was released on 10th July 2015, the movie was another installment in the Despicable Me franchise and it garnered more than a few fans. The Short Yellow troublemakers were the breakout character of the franchise so the solo movie was a good move. But it has been more than 6 years since then and we have been waiting for a sequel. The sequel finally comes in the form of Minions: Rise of Gru on 1st July 2022. it is said that the film will focus on Gru’s formative years. Well, we cannot wait for it.

Legally Blonde 3

Reese Witherspoon enticed fans with her turn of the century movies titled Legally Blonde. This movie was about a fashion major who went to law school to get her boyfriend back but ended up succeeding in the legal profession because of her intellect. The second installment in the franchise was released on 2nd July 2003 and marked the end of the college-era for the character. Now the final entry in the trilogy is scheduled for release on 20th May 2022, almost 19 years after the last one.

Expendables 4

Expendables 3 came out on 22nd August 2014 and the franchise received another action-packed entry. It seemed like the filmmakers were out of ideas but the fans were wrong in this assessment. Recently, it was announced that the franchise will be receiving another installment. Expendables 4  is slated for release in 2022, although a specific release date is yet to be assigned. Moreover, it seems that the characters have one more mission in them.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania

Ant-Man and the Wasp was released after Infinity War on 6th July 2018. The aim was to introduce the Quantum realm into the MCU continuity so that The Avengers could use it in the finale of Endgame. However, the movie did more than just create a tool, it created anticipation. Now Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will explore the Quantum realm to its fullest extent, beyond just the surface level stuff. Ant-Man 3 will come out on 28th July 2023, almost 5 years after its predecessor.

Guardians of The Galaxy Volume Vol. 3

Upcoming Movie Sequels

Guardians Of The Galaxy was one of Marvel’s most ambitious projects. James Gunn had done some amazing work on the first movie. So much so, that he had created one of the greatest franchises to boot. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 came out on 5th May 2017 and took the story of the pair further and introduced Adam Warlock in the After Credits scene. Since then we have waited for the clash between warlock and the Guardians but it did not come. Now it is confirmed that we will see it on 23rd May 2023 with the release of Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3.

Indiana Jones 5

The Indiana Jones franchise now spans 2 generations. Both Baby Boomers and The Millenials are big fans of the franchise. Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out on 30th May 2008. This movie introduced us to Indie’s son and saw a return from his father played by Sean Connery. It seems that the character is not interested in him hanging up his hat because another installment titled Indiana Jones 5 is slated for release on 30th June 2023, almost 15 years after the last one.

Star Trek 4

The new timeline of the Star Trek movie series is said to be a parallel universe. Although something that tied things together was the appearance of Old Spock, it seems that that was only meant as an easter egg for the most loyal fans. Star Trek Beyond was released on 22nd July 2016 and retained most of the charm of the franchise but lost something special about the brand. Now Star Trek 4 is one of the Upcoming Movie Sequels scheduled for release on 9th June 2023.
