The Infinity Saga was one of the biggest events of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it took over a decade to establish. Each movie till Avengers: Endgame had played a major role in order to lay the bricks of the franchise. This narrative gave us one of the best villains with Thanos and his own story was of much essence. Now MCU is trying to shift from this narrative and build upon some other stories. While this saga might have ended there are still some major facets to the story that are being played out in the future that addresses some points of the saga. Recently, the writers of Eternals have suggested that in a way, Harry Styles’ Starfox was responsible for Infinity War!
The Infinity Saga
The prime focus through the narrative of the Infinity Saga was the Infinity Stones and the endless possibilities the powers they possess. While the heroes are introduced to each of these stones one by one with each sequence of events in the various movies. The Mad Titan is driven to use these stones in order to fulfill his plans of killing half of the universe’s population. He does fulfill his plans in Avengers: Infinity War but the heroes are able to bring back the population in Avengers: Endgame. Thanos’ reasoning was that this would save the universe from the same destruction his own home planet saw. But there seem to be some more reasons attached to this as was revealed recently.
Starfox’s Involvement In Infinity War
The writers of Eternals, Matthew ‘Kaz’ Firpo & Ryan Firpo revealed in an exclusive interview with Screen Rant whether they plan to bring in more details attached to Thanos. They also talked about whether there were plans of acknowledging the Mad Titan’s origin story which might include references to both the Eternals and the Deviants. The conversation took place as follows:
Kaz Firpo: We were actually, like, powerfully familiar with the crazy Thanos origin story, which I’m pretty sure is full-blown Greek myth where he, like, killed his own mother I wanna say… It’s been a little bit since I read those arcs, we did a deep-dive into Thanos…
Ryan Firpo: She rejected him.
Kaz Firpo: Yeah, he was born from an Eternal and raised as a Deviant, and he’s sort of caught in between the two, so there is a lot of… again, that early connective tissue.
But I think, for the sake of this movie as a film, we really just decided to tell this story, and maybe when we get out into the cosmos you might… I mean, we’re literally meeting Thanos’ actual brother at the end of the film, and I think there’s room for Eros – well, Harry [Styles] – to have a conversation about that.
I think that Starfox is a lot responsible for why Thanos is the way he is, to have that… all jokes aside, to have this perfect brother who can make anyone fall in love with him? It does something to you. So I hope we get to see a little bit more of that in Number 2.
The Chloe Zhao directed superhero feature, Eternals might be one of the most interesting additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There were various elements of the MCU that were cleared by the movie and that brought us much closer to the characters in terms of how the world-building for the movie was done. The movie also introduced us to more of the Eternals and the Celestials who have been referenced at various times in the MCU.
But one of the biggest additions that Eternals brings has to be the character of Starfox as played by Harry Styles. The character seems to look quite different from Thanos even though he is the brother of the Mad Titan. There is a chance that the writers are actually building up the story with Thanos getting scarred by issues of his image and having a constant rivalry due to comparisons drawn with his brother. Thanos is also an Eternal but he has a Deviant gene that was the reason behind his appearance and this was also why his mother Sui-San planned to kill him as an infant.
There is a chance that we might get to explore a lot of the world of Thanos in future projects in the form of flashbacks as Starfox introduces these stories. Harry Styles has also signed a multiple project deal with MCU for his appearance as the character of Eros. This might draw some controversy considering the events of the Infinity Saga led to the loss of some of our favorite Avengers.
It’ll be interesting to see how Starfox was responsible for Infinity War. We’ll probably get the backstory between Starfox and Thanos in Eternals 2, or 3. Are you ready for it? Let us know in the comments.
