Kevin Feige Almost Confirms That Spider-Man Will Not Leave The MCU

Spider-Man is definitely one of the most essential characters in the Marvel comics and now in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is primarily because the character is probably the most relatable of the superheroes that we have gotten. He goes through the same issues and lifestyle as an average teenager while balancing it along with his superhero persona. This is not all considering the character has some of the most interesting development in the comics. And this was done equally nicely in the movie adaptations for the character. These characteristics end up making the character rather likable even in a very short period of time. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is amongst the best interpretations of the character and fans would accept it. Recently Marvel head Kevin Feige shared his thoughts about Spider-Man leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Spider-Man: No Way Home. Well, after his comments, I’m pretty sure that Spider-Man will not leave the MCU!

Spider-Man

Sony has had various attempts at the character of Spider-Man over the years and these include interpretations that actually played an important hand in the initialization of the MCU. But Marvel made sure that they got to use the character for their own addition in the Marvel Cinematic Universe using a deal to share the character between the studios. Fans fell in love with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man since the character had its debut in Captain America: Civil War.

But the deal and the plans for using the character for the MCU projects haven’t been an easy ride for Marvel. When the initial deal for using the character had ended, both the studios were in disagreement and for a while, it seemed that the character might not appear in any future MCU project. But then the studios came into some form of agreement, benefitting both of them and the result would be the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Kevin Feige Shares His Thoughts

Spider-Man Will Not Leave The MCU

Considering that both the studios are in a much better place now regarding the deal Marvel Head Kevin Feige gave us a glance at the entire ordeal and the future of the character. In an interview that was published in Empire Magazine’s latest issue, he talked about what was going on in his head regarding the shaky circumstance back in 2019. He mentioned:

I was mentally preparing to emotionally separate from it. I didn’t love it, but it is what it is. And then, thankfully, it came back together.

Even Tom Holland played an essential role in bringing this deal together so that his character could appear in future MCU projects. He talked about his involvement in this agreement considering he really wanted a possible fix to the issue. He said:

From a business point of view, I wasn’t instrumental at all. People seem to think I suddenly went to law school and singlehandedly struck up a deal between Sony and Disney. Essentially, all I did was show both parties how passionate I was about this character. I basically said, ‘Look, if there’s a world where you can fix this, it will be so much better for the character, and for me, and for the fans. So if you can fix it, fix it.’

Regarding the future of the character, Kevin Feige sounded quite confident with the fact that fans won’t have to experience a problem like the last time. He expressed that:

I don’t anticipate us going through that emotional rollercoaster, or putting fans through that emotional rollercoaster, again.

What Does This Mean For Spider-Man in MCU?

Spider-Man Will Not Leave The MCU

Fans had almost given up on ever getting a chance to Spider-Man in the MCU following everything that was going on in 2019. We had just gotten Spider-Man: Far From Home, and it became the first film about the web crawler to cross $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Sony probably saw the market that the character had and wanted to invest in it all by themselves!

But now it seems that Spider-Man is going to stick around in the MCU for the time being. Kevin Feige has clearly given us a fair amount of idea how much the character means to him and we can be sure he won’t let fans lose their favorite Marvel character anytime soon. Spider-Man: No Way Home will release in theatres on December 17.
