Here’s Why No Prior Meeting Between Venom and Spider-Man Is A Good Thing

The new Venom movie will be out soon and the director Any Serkis came live on Instagram to take questions for a promotional event. In this live session, he explained to the audience why no prior meeting between Venom and Spider-Man is such a good thing. He just confirmed that Venom and Spider-Man will definitely meet in a future movie and there’s no question about it.

Meeting Between Venom and Spider-Man

During the interview, Serkis had this to say about the meeting:

”Look, that’s the question on everyone’s lips. They want to know when Venom is going to meet Spider-Man. Personally, it’s never going to happen! I’m only joking! It’s going to happen…It’s gonna happen; of course, it’s gonna happen.”

The director iterated that the villains were more interesting than the inevitable confrontation with Spider-Man and he was more focused on the narrative of Venom right now. He added:

“Look, it depends when you want to get there and also what the appetite is. If people want more Venom stories, then to jump straight to Spider-Man, you could be missing out on so many great supervillain characters between now and then.”

Andy Serkis also said this in reply to the assertion that a fight between Spider-Man and Venom is inevitable. He continued:

“Point taken, yes, everybody wants to see Venom fight Spider-Man. So I think, again, it’s appetite…they’ll be sacrificing all of that stuff if they want to rush to that.”The director also said this regarding the R-rating of the movie, “Well, look. I mean, the fact of the matter is that you could go down an R-rated, you know, adult version of this. Of course you could.”

He concluded:

“You could have done that with the last film. But we wanted to reach a big audience with this, and with that, there are several kind of rules that you have to abide by. I think we have pushed to the very very limits, the danger and darkness, and the threat and the menace of Carnage.”

We certainly hope so, Andy, we certainly hope so. The meeting between Venom and Spider-Man has always felt inevitable but we agree with Serkis that there is much to be explored in the back story if Venom himself. The villain is a very complex character in himself. Klyntars are a critical part of Marvel’s storytelling and Venom has always had a very interesting character. We hope to see the sub-franchise do well by itself before Spider-Man comes to the scene.

If it is done right, the eventual meeting between Venom and Spider-Man could end up being like the first meeting between Batman and Superman. For context, Superman was sent to apprehend Batman but soon realized that the vigilante was doing more good than harm, although his methods were questionable. It would be amazing to see the same relationship form between Venom and Spider-Man.

With the recent addition of Venom into the SPUMC things have taken a dark turn. The menacing dark anti-hero tone has done wonders for the character. So has the R rating of the film. We do wonder how long will it be before the other Klyntars join the fun in the SPUMC. Even without the Spider Symbol Venom is still a very real threat to the troublemakers in the universe.

Entire History of Venom

We also find it prudent to mention that the comic lore of Venom is deep and complex. So much so that the sub-franchise can carry on for another 6-7 movies without needing to rely on the presence of Spider-Man at all. Moreover, the villains from Ravencroft have been barely explored yet. Marvel has no limit to Klynars present in the comic and all of them can be eventually introduced into the movie universe as the antagonist to venom one after the other.

Not to mention the legendary king in black Knull and his all-black Necrosword which was said to be the first symbiote. The storyline where these two battle it out for the leadership of the symbiote hive mind is probably one of the best in the Venom comics. Then there is the Anti-Venom storyline that forecasts Venom as an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and an Avenger. Won’t it be fun to see the black symbiote be a part of the earth’s mightiest heroes? We think it will be.

We think that Venom Let There Be Carnage will be one of the most interesting movies to come out in a long time. We can hardly wait to see it. Let us know your impressions in the comments below and keep watching this space for everything Marvel, DC, and Hollywood.
