Thor movies have always had a very weird presence in the MCU. The first part of the sub-franchise was a love letter to the original story of the character but fell flat when it came to impressing fans. Thor: The Dark World was hit even harder by negative reviews and is considered to be a forgettable installment. Thor: Ragnarok, however, is one of the best movies the MCU has ever produced. Taika Waititi’s wit coupled with an endearing performance by Chris Hemsworth gave us a memorable close to Phase 3. Now, the next installment in the series is in production, and if the rumors are to be believed it is going to be following one of the recent comic arcs featuring a New Thor. What’s even more interesting is that there are a lot of future projects that Thor 4 could set up. In fact, we made a list. Take a look:
All Projects That Thor 4 Could Set Up
The Mighty Thor
Jane Foster is a character that comic fans are well acquainted with. She is an astrophysicist and has a love interest for Marvel’s God of Thunder. She is also the headliner of the latest edition of Marvel comics where Thor becomes unworthy of Mjolnir. Odinson is left stranded without his weapon and Midgard is stranded without a protector. This is when a cancer-stricken Jane Foster takes up the Mjolnir and the mantle of Thor. Her comic run was quite extraordinary and fun to read. Here is to hoping that we will receive a movie on it soon given that Thor 4 is closely based on this comic. But since the Mjolnir is destroyed in the MCU it is more likely that we’ll see an alternate universe of Jane Foster wielding the hammer rather than the MCU prime version.
Thor 5
Thor is not a particularly well-loved sub-franchise in the series, but it is one that the fans have grown warmer too, over the years. We are eagerly waiting for Thor: Love and Thunder. But we also know that the introduction of Jane’s Thor will create a schism in the franchise. Basically, Hemsworth would not be Thor anymore. But maybe that is a good thing because then we can have Thor 5 which is actually an Odinson story while The Mighty Thor gets her own spinoff movie. This is all conjecture but we feel it is a legitimate possibility.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3
Thor paired up with the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers: Infinity War. He was salvaged from the wreck of his ark by Peter Quill and then the heroes proceeded to equip the God of Thunder with a new powerful weapon. The dynamic of Thor and the Guardians really shined in the movie as their personalities bounced off each other with relative ease. At the end of Endgame, we saw Thor leave Earth to go adventuring with the Guardians, which means that the next Thor movie will inexplicably shine a line on the next Guardians of The Galaxy movie.
Path of the Valkyrie
We left Valkyrie in new Asgard at the end of Avengers: Endgame as Thor decided to move on to adventuring. We do not know what has transpired in new Asgard after the events of the last Avengers movie, we do hope it is all good. But we also know that if something bad were to happen, then Valkyrie would be The to rise to the defense of the city. This is exactly what we wish to see when we do get a standalone Valkyrie movie. Don’t look at us like that, you all know it is an inevitability.
We are Venom
It is strange to mention Venom in an article about Thor but you’d be surprised how closely linked the villain is to this movie. You see, the main antagonist of Thor Love and Thunder Gorr the God Slayer. The God slayer is a person who gets his powers from a symbiote. You see, once there was an almighty ruler called Knull, who created the first symbiote to kill celestial species. Gorr has seen fit to continue this endeavor and butchers Gods for fun. If this character is inducted into the MCU then that will confirm the existence of Symbiotes in the franchise and soon we may get the OG symbiotes in the main universe too. We can hope, at least.
Hercules
Russell Crowe is all set to play Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder. This means that Greek Mythology will start seeping into the MCU very soon. It also means that fans may get their long-lost wish of getting to see a Hercules movie in the MCU. Granted it is more a wish of a few select forum participants but who are we to defer from God’s will.
So these are the future projects that Thor 4 could set up.
