New Guardians of the Galaxy Game and Black Panther Expansion in Avengers Revealed
Last year, Square Enix brought us Marvel’s Avengers. The game was pretty fun as gamers got to walk around as their favorite heroes. But sadly, it did not turn out to be a profitable venture for the studio. Still, they are coming up with DLC additions to make the game more interesting. In recent times, they’ve added Hawkeye and Kate Bishop into the mix. Now, they are adding a new Black Panther Expansion in Avengers. But most importantly, it is amazing that Square Enix is also bringing us a new Guardians of the Galaxy game later this year.
Black Panther Expansion in Avengers
This new expansion of Square Enix’s Marvel’s Avengers through Black Panther looks pretty awesome. There are several takeaways from the MCU’s version of Black Panther, such as the suit design and its purple shade symbolizing the Kinetic energy intake. Even the relationship between Shuri and T’Challa reminds us of the MCU. This Black Panther Expansion in Avengers is titled War for Wakanda and it will arrive in August. Black Panther will be introduced as a playable character and he’d have his own story in Marvel’s Avengers.
New Guardians of the Galaxy Game
At E3, Square Enix also revealed this first trailer of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. It has just exploded on Twitter. People are more hyped to play this game than they were for Marvel’s Avengers. Coming from the same studio, it is obviously set in the same Universe. But it is far away from the world of the Avengers, which is mostly set on Earth. SE also revealed a deep dive developer featurette for the new Guardians of the Galaxy game.

Square Enix had a 20-minute presentation for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Besides this featurette, the studio also revealed 11 minutes of its gameplay. Watch that here if you haven’t already:
There are a lot of elements that are similar to the MCU. So, it’s good that Square Enix learned from a little mistake that they made with Marvel’s Avengers. They tried to deviate a whole lot from MCU’s Avengers. But this time, the character motivations of Drax, Groot, and Rocket in particular are similar to the films. And at the same time, they are quite different from the movies as well. Gamora in particular seems different, and more comic accurate to say the least. So, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy maintains the right balance of similarities and differences with the MCU.
Players will get to play as Star Lord in the new Guardians of the Galaxy game. It has been confirmed by the team at Eidos that this game will allow players to adventure throughout the galaxy as part of their missions. Sadly, we won’t get to play as the other Guardians besides Star Lord as it is a single-player adventure with a third-person point-of-view. It arrives on October 26, 2021.

It will be interesting to see what Square Enix can offer after the new Guardians of the Galaxy game and the Black Panther expansion in Avengers. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will have to cover up for the losses that Marvel’s Avengers attained. But if it turns out to be successful, then the sequel might actually bring a crossover for these two games. And adding PS4’s Spider-Man into the mix will only be a bonus for the players.
