Loki: How MCU’s Sylvie is Different From the Comics

Loki premiered on Disney+ and has let out a wave amongst the viewers. With the third episode around the corner, we are still binging on the 2nd one! That’s because I, personally, have way too many questions and answers as well. Loki episode 2 “The Variant” showed that the Sacred Timeline has been bombed by Lady Loki. And we all know how notoriously evil and dangerous she is. Lady Loki, or Sylvie Laufeydottir, is finally in the MCU. And trust me, she makes for a great antagonist as of now. But is she exactly the same? Let’s discuss how MCU’s Sylvie is different from the comics!

How MCU’s Sylvie is Different from the Comics

Well, I have to say that she does look fairly similar to her comic counterpart. Her iconic green-and-gold Asgardian garb and the horned crown were the major giveaways. Moreover, the crown that she sports is even party damaged. This is a straight reference to Lady Loki that appears on the comic book pages of “Loki: Agent of Asgard.”

In the MCU, she’s a variant of Loki. But there is where things have changed. Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie has blonde hair, which no variation of Loki has had in Marvel Comics. And this is not simply because the actor didn’t want to wear a wig. Moreover, blonde hair is not the issue in the first place. In the comics, the story is different. Loki actually takes on the body of Lady Sif of Asgard during the events of Ragnarok. But the said character has not been seen in the MCU since 2014’s Thor: The Dark World.

How MCU’s Sylvie is Different

There are other major factors that help us differentiate Lady Loki and Loki. First, she didn’t like being called Loki. In their brief interaction, Loki called her by the name Loki and she refused to be associated with that name. Moving on, this variant of Loki can full-on possess a chain of people as long as she touches the first person, unlike our Loki. Now, this is a major ode to a different character in the comics, who is connected to Loki as well. But, I must tell you, she is not a variant of Loki!

Lady Loki Could Be The Enchantress From Comics

This Lady Loki could very well be a version of Enchantress from Marvel Comics. She is named Sylvie, and she gained her powers from none other than Loki. Moreover, she is widely considered to be created by him only. Then, when Loki perished, she began to fall ill as well. According to the rumors, a variant of Loki played by Richard E. Grant, probably Old Loki could come into play. And this connects to her.

How MCU’s Sylvie is Different

It could be that he is one of the Time-Keepers. Or more so, it’s possible that he a variant that the show has not mentioned yet. To answer how Sylvie could carry Loki’s temporal aura, the possible answer to that is, that it was given to her by a Loki variant. This has successfully kept the TVA off the scent when it comes to him. Plus, if she is actually Sylvie, then she would need this Loki variant to stay alive and healthy as her life depends on him as well.

Speaking for me, personally, it would be great to see Loki deal heavily with one of his variant itself. There’s a high chance that Lady Loki is not what she seems to be or what Mobius thinks she is. At this point in time, Mobius is in a real tough spot as he has just Loki out of his grasp as well. So, we now wait and see where the show goes. It’s highly likely that Lady Loki’s true identity will be revealed in the upcoming episode.

So this is how MCU’s Sylvie is different from the comics. Let’s see what other differences does the third episode reveal. Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Lexus Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, and Sophia Di Martino, Richard E. Grant, Sasha Lane, and Eugene Cordero in undisclosed roles. New episodes come out every Wednesday.
