Marvel is specifically known for its interconnectivity and badass characters. Over the years, Marvel has given us classics to enjoy. One of many was Avengers: Infinity War. The movie specifically focused on Thanos invading Earth and giving the Avengers a beating they’ll never forget. Thanos finally fulfilled his destiny by collecting all the Infinity Stones and snapping his fingers. But in the course of acquiring all the stones, Thanos made a radical decision. He decided to sacrifice Gamora in return for the Soul Stone. And right after the snap, we saw him in a different place where he encountered Baby Gamora. Something similar was seen in a deleted scene where Tony met his daughter who had grown up.
The dynamic duo of the Avengers: Endgame directors finally answered a long-awaited question about Soul World. Apparently, the place where Thanos met Gamora is called “The Way Station.” The Russo Brothers were also able to confirm where the Way Station was located. During a visit to Iowa City, the Russos talked with some fans over the film’s opening weekend and answered their burning questions. One of the questions was if the Way Station was inside of the Soul Stone. The Russos were able to confirm that this was accurate and went on to explain that this was why the area was bathed in an orange hue.
The Soul Stone creates a pocket dimension that houses all of the souls that it has taken. When asked specifically if Gamora is alive within the Soul Stone, Russo confirmed, “She in fact is, yes. It was an attempt on our part – because we don’t like two-dimensional roles or three-dimensional villains every villain is a hero in their own story and as insane and psychotic and brutal and violent as Thanos is he’s a more complex villain if you go on a journey with him emotionally.”
The Russo Brothers explained that the act of the snap took Tony to the ‘Way Station’ so that he may reconcile with something that was unresolved. He then met an older version of his daughter. Similarly, Thanos met a younger version of Gamora. So it will be safe to say that the Soul Stone takes people on to the Way Sation, lets them bury the hatchet, and puts their soul to rest. The Way Station may not be seen again in the MCU. But the way it has been displayed will never leave our heads. Seeing Thanos and Tony, both meeting their daughters was a beautiful moment, and no matter how evil the villain is, there’s always a leak of emotion.
