Taylor Swift Calls Out Netflix’s ‘Ginny And Georgia’ Over Sexist Remarks

Ginny And Georgia is the latest Netflix show which released on 24th February and has been trending on the top ten charts since then. This is the story of a 15-year-old Ginny and her 30-year mother and 9-year-old brother who move to a picturesque and rich New England town after being on the run for years. The show has been compared to Gilmore Girls, and the characters on screen also compare themselves to the Gilmore Girls with ‘bigger boobs’.

Georgia is portrayed as a strong and crooked woman with lots of secrets and a hunger to not just survive at all costs, but also give the very best to her children. A single mother raising two kids who are not too bad themselves seem like the plot of a perfect feminist show. But one ‘sexist joke’ has gotten the show into trouble. And that joke was targeted at Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift took to Twitter to bash Netflix and the show for a joke about her dating life in the show. The joke came in a scene where Ginny was getting annoyed by her mother probing into her love life. And then she shamed her mother saying, “Why do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift.”

The Swifties were swift in criticizing the joke and the show calling it misogynistic. Taylor Swift wrote a sharp tweet herself openly calling out Netflix. “Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back. How about we stop degrading hard-working women by defining this horse shit as FuNnY. Also, @netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you. Happy Women’s History Month I guess”, she wrote in her tweet.

Netflix has not responded to this comment yet. But Twitter users and her fans come out in her support. Celebrities like Abby Wambach, Jameela Jamil retweeted her tweet and supported her. Some fans also shared screenshots of nonoffensive Taylor Swift jokes from other shows including New Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Good Place.

Taylor Swift’s dating life has been in the public eye for the longest time. And it is true that she has dated different men, but there isn’t anything wrong with not finding love in people you expect to find it with and move on in life. She has been dating Joe Alwyn for the last few years, and she spoke about their relationship and its private nature in her Netflix Documentary as well.
