Spider-Man 3 Social Media Indicates WandaVision Connections
Spider-Man 3 WandaVision Connections:
The MCU is expanding its reach through a string of series exclusively for Disney+. But aside from that, the franchise itself is getting bigger as Marvel Studios properly tackles the multiverse. We also got to see the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduces the concept in Doctor Strange and Ant-Man, and sure a lot of it in Avengers: Endgame. And it is not going to be any different in Spider-Man 3 as well, at least so we hope. As part of this new endeavor, there are upcoming projects expected to further explore the concept such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man 3. If the general assumption comes to fruition, WandaVision will as well.
Given these connections, we connect the dots while embracing Doctor Strange’s role in Spider-Man 3, there have been obvious questions of whether Wanda, Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen, will be seen in Spider-Man 3 as well or not. When asked this question during a recent interview with Capital FM, Olsen didn’t deny the possibility, although she admits she’s unaware of some of the details. In any case, if “everyone’s” in Spider-Man 3, then Olsen’s assuming she’ll be in it, too. Olsen said, “I assume you might [see Scarlet Witch] if everyone’s in it, but I haven’t shown up to that party quite yet, I don’t think.” It’s worth noting much remains unknown about even Doctor Strange’s part in Spider-Man 3, though it only makes sense for the master of the mystic arts to help establish the link between that film and his own sequel.
The Illuminerdi grabbed screenshots from multiple Story posts that Sony created for its Flash Thompson Instagram account. The first two feature polls detailing the fallout of Peter Parker’s identity as Spider-Man being revealed and teasing Ned Leeds becoming Hobgoblin. The final story involves a shot of The Daily Bugle’s website, which features a story on Spider-Man’s identity reveal. But elsewhere in the image, there seem to be nods to WandaVision. At the bottom of the page, there’s what appears to be a comment reading “Find these darn astronauts!” This could be a nod to a story element that will play out in Spider-Man 3 involving J. Jonah Jameson’s son, a famed astronaut who becomes Man-Wolf in the comics and whose shuttle brings the Venom symbiote to Earth in both the Spider-Man animated series from the ’90s and 2018’s Venom. But the latest WandaVision episode also mentions a group of astronauts as part of a S.W.O.R.D. the program, one that could link to the Fantastic Four’s MCU debut.
The more concrete WandaVision nod is at the top right corner in a story that mentions an “Area 52” in New Jersey. A nod to Area 51, long believed to house evidence of aliens, this seems like a fairly explicit tie to WandaVision’s Westview, NJ, proving the Sony marketing for Spider-Man 3 is firmly connected to the MCU.
It also hints that the events of the Disney+ show could factor into the upcoming Spidey film.
