The relations in the show business are made of glass, one discord and they break into million pieces for the tabloids to pick up. Making a movie can never be a smooth business, no matter what your budget is. A team of so many creative and genius minds often lead to a clash. The whole period of production is stressful due to the long working hours and the amount of efforts that are put in.This stress often gets manifested in the crew and cast’s behavior which escalates to conflicts and fights. Actors and directors have been caught up in heated feuds and arguments on many occasions. Here are the biggest and the most controversial fights between the actors and directors that have ever taken place.
1. Keira Knightley and John Carney
When John Carney openly humiliated Keira by questioning her acting skills, many well-known directors called him out on Twitter and supported Keira. During an interview, John was describing his experience of working with the Oscar-nominated actor in Begin Again. He called her a “supermodel” as she was apparently unable to express her character. On being slammed by others, John apologized to Keira.
2. Edward Norton and Tony Kaye
Edward and Tony had been at loggerheads since day one of American History X. It escalated further during the editing process. At one point Tony got so peeved at Norton that he punched a wall.
3. Val Kilmer and Joel Schumacher
No matter how much we liked Van Kilmer as Batman, his director couldn’t stand him at all. According to reports, the director and the actor even pushed each other on the sets. Later, Kilmer got replaced by George Clooney.
4. Bruce Willis and Kevin Smith
Kevin openly shared his dislike for Bruce Willis during an interview without mentioning his name. It was easy for fans to guess due to their famous animosity from the sets of “Cop Out”. When asked about his experience during Cop Out, Kevin disclosed his equation with Willis by saying “Put it this way, remember the really funny guy in the movie? It ain’t him. He’s a f—ing dream. “. Kevin further went on to call it “soul-crushing”.
5. Shelley Duvall and Stanley Kubrick
Shelley’s horror during the filming of The Shining was quite real behind the camera. The shooting was tormenting for Shelley who was constantly being shouted at by Stanley Kubrick. For one of the distressing scenes in the climax, Stanley forced her to give 127 takes.
6. George Clooney and David O. Russell
Clooney and Russell got into a physical fight on the sets of “Three Kings”. According to reports, Russell was distressed with budget constraints from the studio and vented out his frustration on the crew. His alleged aggressive behavior infuriated Clooney and the two jumped on each other. David’s name has been mentioned twice on this list for his tantrums and dramatic fights with his actors.
7. Megan Fox and Michael Bay
Megan rose to stardom from Michael Bay’s Transformers. But she was fired from the set after she compared Michael to Hitler. Megan said that he “wants to create this insane, infamous mad-man reputation. He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is … He has no social skills at all. It’s endearing to watch him. He’s so vulnerable and fragile in real life and then on set, he’s a tyrant.” Bay also retaliated with his own version and their hatred went on for many years until Meghan was signed for his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
8. Tippi Hedren and Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock had earned a huge name and accolades for his professional work on the screen. But he was infamous as a director behind the scenes for his methods. Tippi rose to prominence after starring in Alfred’s ‘The Birds’ and ‘Marnie’. The actress accused the director of making sexual advances towards her. She said that he allegedly tried to blackmail and threaten her career many times and the actress completely shunned him off.
9. Bill Murray and Harold Ramis
Bill and Harold were closest of friends for decades and worked together in several films. But things got awry on the set of Groundhog Day due to Bill’s personal issues that reflected on his unprofessional behavior on the set. Ramis was miffed at Bill’s coming late to work and behaving like a diva. This led to a fight between the two friends and they remained parted for more than 20 years until Ramis got ill.
10. Katherine Heigl and Judd Apatow
Katherine and Judd worked together on Knocked Up. A rift was created between the two when Katherine called Judd’s film ‘Knocked Up’ sexist. She said that the women in the movie were portrayed as uptight characters while the men were shown as charming and fun-loving.
11. Kim Basinger and Adrian Lyne
In his desperate attempts to get an authentic reaction from Kim, Adrian would infuriate her on various occasions on purpose. The director also made Kim’s costar, Mickey Rourke to shun Kim off the camera to maintain the heated intensity on the screen. Later Kim shared that she wanted to quit the set of ‘9 ½ Weeks’ on many occasions due to Adrian’s tormenting methods.

Lily and David’s dramatic feud had swirled the tabloids and internet. During the shoot of ‘I Heart Huckabees’, Russell screamed at Lily and threw his stuff all around the room after she confronted him for changing the dialogues so many times. However, they have buried the hatchet now and become better friends.
