Adapting a Video Game has never been easy as you can never really please everyone. We have seen a lot of movies based on video games over the years and most of them have ended up disappointing the fans gravely. But it’s not impossible to make a good Video game movie and the movies on this list are the perfect example of that. This genre is only going to get better as we believe they’ve finally cracked the code.
#10: Hitman (2007)
Most of us are already familiar with the expertise of the genetically engineered assassin named Agent 47. This perfect assassin is played by Timothy Olyphant in the 2007 movie, and he does a stellar job in portraying the emotionless killer. The movie is full of good action sequences and it doesn’t disappoint the fans of the video game.
#9: Tomb Raider (2018)
We had to wait a long time for a good movie on the badass female character Lara Croft. Alicia Vikander is awesome as the brave archaeologist and Tomb Raider is an intense adventure movie that pays respect to the video game as well. Angelina Jolie was perfect as Lara Croft but her movies were written badly, thankfully, this movie repairs that damage to a huge extent.
#8: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005)
In terms of visuals, there is hardly any other movie that even comes close to this gem. It is full of high-intensity fight sequences that will blow you away. It features brilliant music that will pump you up with adrenaline. It only has one tiny flaw, it is not a mainstream movie. It hardly explains anything to newcomers.
#7: Silent Hill (2006)
Silent Hill is a chilling Psychological horror movie with an amazing story. As far as video game adaptations go, it is nearly impossible to surpass Silent Hill. For those who are familiar with the game, they know how scary the movie can be. It is full of amazing visuals but it is the sound effects and the music that makes it something special.
#6: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010)
This movie is criminally underrated as it did everything right but still, not a lot of people remember it. The game is full of elements that make it super hard to adapt, but this movie defies all those odds. It is packed with a stellar cast, with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead, and when has he ever disappointed us?
#5: Warcraft (2016)
We waited years for this movie and it was a lot better than most of us expected it to be. Warcraft features an amazing world full of magic and this movie captures that beautifully. The movie features great acting, the actors fit their roles perfectly. It is a bit CGI heavy, but it is nearly impossible to create the Warcraft world without the use of CGI.
#4: Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019)
The makers of this movie took a lot of creative risks. To make a live-action Pokémon movie without Ash Ketchum was the biggest risk. Fortunately, it paid off as the fans loved the unique spin this movie took. Ryan Reynolds’ addition was a masterstroke and the VFX is spectacular. This movie is a treat for Pokémon fans.
#3: Sonic The Hedgehog (2020)
No one thought this movie would amount to something special as the entire fandom discarded it the moment they saw the initial design for sonic. Miraculously, the makers listened to the fans and changed the design. Even if it was a marketing ploy, the movie is amazing and it features some high-caliber acting from Jim Carrey.
#2: Resident Evil (2002)
Resident Evil is a super scary game, full of amazing twists and turns. Making a good horror movie has always been daunting, but this movie gets it all right. Milla Jovovich single-handedly turned it into a multi-million-dollar franchise, but the first movie is still the best one and the one closest to our hearts.
#1: Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
Wreck-It Ralph is a fantastic movie that is inspired by a lot of old-school arcade games, especially Donkey Kong. It is the perfect movie for anyone who has ever played an arcade game. The animation is amazing to look at and it is not just for kids. In terms of originality, this movie beats everyone.
