Nova Movie Plot: Richard Rider as a Xandarian
There is no denying the fact that Nova is among the next generation heroes that are coming to the MCU in Phase 5. Marvel has been wanting to introduce him since the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. When they couldn’t do that, Infinity War writers had an initial draft with Nova playing a huge role. But that didn’t work either. And now, Nova is certainly coming either in 2o22 or 2o23 as we’ve already got the first Easter Egg to establish him. It was seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home. But now, new rumors have revealed how he will become a part of the MCU.
First we got the rumor from Marvel Scooper Mikey Sutton, whose initial intel about the MCU was spot on, and all his latest scoops are yet to be proven. Anyway, what he had to say about Nova was that this character will team up with Adam Warlock, Captain Marvel, Quasar, Moon Dragon and others to take on the likes of Galactus, Annihilus, & Terrax the Tamer in an “Annihilation” movie. But as far as the origin of Nova was concerned, we only got this –
“Richard Rider has no idea as to what awaits him. After losing his home world Xandar to Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, he was plucked by Nick Fury and the members of SWORD.”
But now, guys from the Youtube Channel Lords of the Long Box have revealed the extended part of this scoop. Here’s what was said on the channel:
“Miley Sutton has discovered the title for an upcoming theatrical movie. This might change as it’s incredibly early. The title is – ‘Nova: The Human Rocket.’ No screenwriters or directors are attached to these films yet so everything is considered early development. Sources tell Sutton at Nova will not be an origin story in the sense that Richard Rider will already be Nova in the beginning of the film. He will be training with SWORD and Nick fury discussions have taken place on how Rider will be different than the MCU’S other youthful male superheroes, Peter Parker. Rider is going to be a stranger in a strange land, essentially an alien on Earth. He’s lost his family due to Thanos and will need to adapt to life on another planet with new super powered friends. It will be up to the creative team to take that theme and wrap it into an entertaining uplifting package.”
So, if this scoop is legit (which by the looks of the MCU’s Xandar situation does seem like it) then it’s obvious that Nova will be getting a major change in his backstory. Richard Rider won’t be a human-like in the comics, but he will actually belong to Xandar. This makes sense because we know for a fact that Thanos destroyed Xandar and killed everyone on the planet 5-6 years ago, (depending upon when this film takes place).
As for the title of the film – “Nova: The Human Rocket,” the human part seems reminiscent of the fact that Xandarians look similar to humans and Nova will have to adapt as a human under the guidance of Nick Fury. So, Nova will probably be carrying a redemption story arc and adapting on Earth, then later in the Universe. Since he is to be recruited by SWORD, then his appearance might actually happen in either Captain Marvel 2 or the SWORD series that is supposed to happen on Disney+.
We don’t know when the Nova movie is supposed to arrive, but since there are certain plans for the film right now, then Marvel could actually surprise us all and release this film as early as 2023. Blade, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 & Ant-Man, and the Wasp 3 pick themselves up for a 2023 theatrical release. It is the 4th film that puts us in doubt. It could either be Nova or Fantastic Four. We’ll have to wait & see for ourselves.
