Every Way Avengers: Endgame Has Set Up Thor: Love And Thunder

Endgame Set Up Thor: Love And Thunder

Thor: Love And Thunder was the most exciting movie of 2021, but now it will begin 2022 in the biggest way possible. After Black Widow, Thor is the only OG Avenger who will be getting his own solo movie(s). We don’t know about a 5th one, but a fourth Thor movie was always in the works as soon as Taika Waititi helmed Thor: Ragnarok. After the release of Ragnarok, he did say that he’d love to make a sequel to that film, and Infinity War & Endgame have perfectly set up the story of Thor 4 to be one of the biggest movies of the entire MCU. So, let’s take a look at how Avengers: Endgame laid down the plot entire for Thor: Love And Thunder:

Jane Foster

In Avengers: Endgame, Thor specifically talked about Jane Foster. After Ragnarok, we thought that the chapter of Jane was over as Natalie Portman didn’t want to return to the MCU, and so the Jane reference in Endgame was just a remembrance for used to be. But as it turned out, it was actually a set up for what’s about to come, i.e. the return of Jane & her love story with Thor.

After Endgame, this was the big revelation at San Diego Comic Con. Not only was the return of Jane was announced, but we also got the intel that she will now become the Mighty Thor. Even Mjolnir was brought back in Endgame as a tease for the fact that we haven’t seen the end of it, and it will return in the future as well. Eitri & Nidavellir were set up in Infinity War, and that angle may be used to bring Mjolnir back as well.

New Asgard, New King

Endgame Set Up Thor: Love And Thunder

At the very end of the film, Thor passed the responsibility of being the King of New Asgard upon Valkyrie. This way, Thor 4 will also explore the story of New Asgard under Valkyrie’s leadership. Valkyrie will now be looking for a new Queen to marry.

Thor, the God of Thunder

Endgame Set Up Thor: Love And Thunder

“Everyone fails at who they’re supposed to be Thor. The measure of a person… of a hero, is how well they succeed at being who they are.” These are the wisest words said by the wisest person on Asgard, Queen Frigga. Thor was never a King. That’s why he failed at being one big time. He is a warrior, a protector, an Avenger, a Revenger, an Asgardian of the Galaxy and the God of Thunder. That’s what we’ll get to see next.

Queen Frigga said, “Go be the man you’re meant to be. And, eat a salad.” This means we will get to see the true power of the God of Thunder next, and he’d certainly be back in good shape.

Asgardians of the Galaxy

Avengers: Endgame Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Infinity War showed us Thor taking a journey with Groot & Rocket. And Endgame brought the Asgardians of the Galaxy back together. We will get to see a little more of that in Thor 4. The Guardians might cameo in the beginning, be a part of a massive battle, then as Vin Diesel recently teased, Groot & Rocket might continue to hang with Thor but the rest of the Guardians might go on a separate mission (and maybe return at the end during the final battle).

Beta Ray Bill

In Avengers: Endgame, during the 2014 sequence of Thanos wiping out half the people of Korbin, we got to see our first look at a live action Korbinite. Who else is a Korbinite? Yes, the guy who’s sculpture was seen on the exterior of the Grandmaster’s Gladiator Arena (Beta Ray Bill). In the comics, Beta Ray Bill is a champion and a protector of his people. So, we suspect that while Thanos was performing mass genocide on Korbin, a bunch of Korbinites fled Korbin under the leadership of Beta Ray Bill. He then became a champion in Grandmaster’s arena, and probably either retired or fled the planet through one of the portals. And now, after two of these major set ups, we will finally see him in Thor: Love And Thunder.
