Movies Where Bad Guy Wins in The End:
Sometimes life does not turn out the way one wants it to as destiny has some other plans. Heroes are always supposed to come out on top, right? Well according to these movies that’s not the case. These movies will kill the optimist in you and shake your beliefs. Obviously, this list includes major spoilers.
#10: Watchmen (2009)
Watchmen depicts a dark and gritty universe where vigilantism has been outlawed and it is not your average superhero movie, it is very complex and tries to show a real-world everyone has a hidden agenda. Ozymandias, also known as the smartest man in the world, designed the ultimate web for the heroes and even the ‘God’ Dr. Manhattan fell into his trap.
#9: One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975)
This movie is full of amazing performances and it is an all-time classic. The movie contains a lot of subtle hints and to truly understand and appreciate this movie you must pick up on those hints. Louise Fletcher’s character Nurse Ratched is super scary and devoid of compassion, and we will remember her showdown with McMurphy forever.
#8: Gone Girl (2014)
On the surface Gone Girl seems like an ordinary family drama but we assure you it is much more than that. The movie is full of dark turns and it has the ability to surprise anyone. It is thought-provoking and the dark theme of the movie is perfectly crafted. In the end, Amy Dunne does manage to get her wishes fulfilled with the help of her intricate planning.
#7: No Country For Old Men (2007)
One of the best works of the legendary Coen Brothers, No Country For Old Men is a tale that tells that life is not a fairy tale and it won’t be good or fair to everyone. Anton Chigurh is a terrifying villain and whenever he was on screen, we knew something bad was going to happen. He achieved the victory in the end and showed a cruel mirror to all the viewers who were hoping for a happy ending.
#6: Memento (2000)
The Best thing about Memento is the fact that it is open-ended and can be interpreted in many ways. In our opinion, Leonard slowly turned into the villain himself as the story progressed. He wanted the killing of “J. G” to be continued and he moved from one JG to another just to satisfy himself.
#5: Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
The Marvel Cinematic Universe teased Thanos for years, and when he finally arrived, he came with a bang (or a snap). He eradicated half of all the living beings in the universe and our beloved heroes could not stop him. Half of our favorite heroes died by the hands of Thanos, and that was a shocking sight to see.
#4: The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Hannibal Lecter is one of the most loved villains of all time. There is something about Anthony Hopkins’ portrayal that we just can’t hate this devious serial killer and cannibal. At this end of this movie, Hannibal was able to set himself free and continued to expand his palate.
#3: Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Darth Vader is one of the strongest characters in the entire Star Wars universe, which is already filled with several overpowered characters. He was a worthy villain to the heroes and it was obviously not that easy to defeat such a strong figure.
#2: Fight Club (1999)
Tyler Durden’s main objective was the success of Project Mayhem and he accomplished that objective and started a new era, where everyone’s credit records were destroyed. He accomplished his mission in the end and left us wondering about the future of that universe.
#1: The Dark Knight (2008)
Not even the World’s Greatest Detective was enough against the Joker. Even though the Clown Prince of Crime was captured in the end, he managed to defeat Batman. Joker just wanted to see the world burn and he accomplished that by destroying the Dark Knight.
