Hela’s Entrance in Thor Ragnarok:
Taika Waititi did a brilliant job with Thor: Ragnarok. Without the efforts of Taika & Chris Hemsworth, Thor’s insane popularity in the last 3-4 years wouldn’t have been possible. What he managed to do really well was revamp the whole franchise by bringing in a new villain was quite commendable. In the comics, Hela is actually Loki’s daughter. Taika Waititi took her and added the plot lines of characters like Angela & Balder the Brave.
Hela turned out to be Odin’s first born. Her lust for even more power needed to be stopped so Odin imprisoned her in a magical prison. As Odin died, there was no one left to hold Hela captive and she came in to wreak havoc on Asgard. Odin disintegrated into golden dust in Norway and in came Hela. She broke Thor’s hammer and showed him who’s the boss! But her original entry was different. The one we saw in the final cut was reshot. Hela’s original entry has now been revealed. Take a look:
As you can see, Odin is dressed as a homeless man. This is what Loki’s magic had done to him originally. He forgot that he was the King of Asgard and was roaming around New York until Thor & Loki came looking for him. Right after they found Odin, Hela made her entry. She was able to escape because Odin’s powers weren’t effective anymore. And, what you don’t get to see in this deleted scene is that Hela then goes on to kill Odin right in this alley.
Odin goes ahead to talk to Hela & she kills him at that very instant. The scene was quite brutal and a part of me wants to watch that scene. But, the death of Odin which we actually got in the final cut works much better. Thor got closure from his father as Odin didn’t die a homeless man. Even Loki got a bit of closure and that was quite awesome as well. It led for Loki to also die as an Odinson.
By the end of Thor: Ragnarok, Hela also supposedly died, but we have evidence that she actually escaped right before Surtur plunged his sword into the core of Asgard. So Cate Blanchett should definitely return as Hela in Thor: Love And Thunder. Back when Ragnarok came out, Taika Waititi said that he wants to direct a sequel to Ragnarok specifically. That’s enough to suggest that Hela will be back along with the villains of Love And Thunder. She may be regaining her strength right now.
Hela’s strength is tied with Asgard, and currently, New Asgard exists on Earth. There’s a rumor that a Valkyrie show is in development. Because she is the new King of Asgard, Hela might return in take movie to make her claim for the throne. This could mean that Hela would be absent in Love & Thunder. Well, she should be because Love & Thunder already has a bunch of characters and at least 3 rumored villains – Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), Amora the Enchantress & Karnilla. Adding Hela might just be too much for the plot.
