Marvel Studios Officially Submits Robert Downey Junior for the Oscars

It is that time of the year again. The Oscars are coming and all the studios are starting to consider which movie and which actor they would like to present to the Oscar Committee for the prestigious prize. Marvel Studios is also about to enter the process. And they have already selected their choice to be submitted as a candidate for the Oscars. It is none other than the Iron Man of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That is right folks!! Robert Downey Junior is officially in the race to become a contender for the most prestigious award in the movie-making industry. Marvel is about to change the game of the Oscars.

The role he is being considered for is for the Best Supporting Actor role. But wait, that is not the end of it. There is way more to come. Disney and Marvel have already selected a flurry of actors out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe pantheon for the Best Supporting Actor role. Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, and Chris Hemsworth are also in the race. Don Cheadle, who played War Machine in the MCU is also tagging along with Jeremy Renner for the Oscars. In the female category for the Best Supporting Actress, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoe Saldana, Scarlett Johansson, Karen Gillian, Brie Larson – are the actresses that have been selected as official entries from Marvel Studios in the same category.

The news about Robert Downey Junior being selected for the Oscar race by Marvel Studios and Disney Entertainment is of particular importance because it was only a while ago when Disney’s list of actors to be sent for selections for Oscar nominations did not include Iron Man in it. The fans were very angry that RDJ was not considered a worthy candidate for the Oscars.

After a Change.org petition to include Robert Downey Junior in the race for the Oscars went a million strong and totally viral, Disney reconsidered their stance and sent another list that included the Iron Man actor. It was only later that Robert Downey Junior revealed that it was his own request to Disney to not include his name in the list of initial names to be sent for Oscar nomination selections. But the damage had been done by then.

Robert Downey Jr. is now officially in the race for the Oscars. But the question that remains now is – will the Oscars start conforming to public pressure now? If a simple change.org petition is enough to make one of the most powerful studios to re-trace their decisions, what about plausible creative freedom? Will the Oscars now start losing its Charm since it will no longer be the voice of the experts in that particular field but a voice of popular public opinion? While we may not be saying it’s a bad thing, the Oscars are about to face a great ideological dilemma in the future, something they must deal with as soon as possible.
