Avengers: Endgame – The Age of Old Captain America Has Been Revealed
Age of Old Captain America:
Avengers: Endgame still is in talks. It was the biggest film of the year, so what else would you expect? It marked the end for the likes of Iron Man and Captain America, while the rest of the OG Avengers will just appear one or two more times. Phase 4 is all about giving the old ones a send-off, and embracing the new. Talking about the old ones, have you ever wondered how old Steve Rogers really is at the end of Avengers: Endgame?
Old Man Steve Rogers came as a big surprise for everyone. The writers and the directors have still not settled on the timeline conundrum of the film. Did Captain America stay with Peggy & grow old in the same original timeline, or did he live in an alternate timeline and hopped on to the original to give Sam the Shield? The writers suggest that they’ve always intended it to be the first option, while the directors have confirmed that it is the second. Either way, Captain America does grow old.
In a video coming from WIRED, it has been revealed that Old Man Steve Rogers is precisely 106 years old by the time we see him at the very end. This video about the special effects of Endgame only takes into account the years that Steve was out of the ice. It has been determined that Cap was 37 years old at the time he went back in 2023. Here’s a clear explanation given by a reddit user:
“Cap is born in 1920. He goes in the ice in 1945 (25 years old)
He is found in 2011 and lives on till 2023. (12 years)
This makes Cap (before he returned the stones) 37 years old.
This means he spends 69 years with Peggy. (106 – 37)
Assuming he returned to Peggy in 1947, a good 2 years after the war ended, he would live till 2016 in alternate timeline. (2016 – 1947 = 69).
2016 is when Peggy died (in Captain America: Civil War)This also proves that Cap returned to main timeline shortly before he time travelled for his dramatic entrance.”
This explanation makes the timeline conundrum clear as well. There were always two Captain Americas present in that alternate timeline where Steve spent 69 years with Peggy Carter. But right after her funeral, Steve comes back and now he exists in the same original timeline. The upcoming show The Falcon And The Winter Soldier could give Cap send off by just showing us a funeral similar to what we got for Peggy Carter in Civil War.
Cap is 106 years old. But if you also count the years he was under ice, then he is 184 years old. Well, that’s probably even older than Wolverine. But then again, Logan was never put under cryo sleep. He lived his entire life even though he doesn’t remember it. And that long life of his is more than 106 years. So technically, he is and always will be the oldest earth-based Superhero on the big screen. Although, the MCU cannot give him this kind of an origin. The Weapon X programme will have to take place in the present. Let’s see how Marvel will handle all that.
